Sometimes I play 16:9 AVI videos in my pub but Opus insists they are 4:3. They play correctly in my media players.
Sometimes I play MP4 videos but they misbehave when I apply video script actions.

Is there a preferred or recommended format/codec which Opus likes?

I have various editors and converters but I don't want to spend hours on trial and error tests if I don't need to...

There is only one format that will provide nearly full support and that is MPEG1. I say say nearly because some converters don't seem to work.

The second best and suitable for HD video would be WMV. As it's support is based on WMP being installed, you have a very good chance of playback on nearly all machines but navigation is a problem.

MP4 and especially AVI are containers and it depends on the format of the video stream as to how effective they are. But neither work without some additional codec installed on a system, so if the publication is to be released then the end system will have additional requirements. Of the two, MP4 using ASP encoding is excellent with QuickTime installed - offering HD and working well with Opus video functions. Of course, the problem is that Apple have discontinued QT for Windows!

As we build today for tomorrow's audience, it is worth mentioning a Windows APP as opposed to a Windows EXE would simply use MP4 and have full HTML5/JS video control.

And as a final word, whether a video works in another player or not - bears no relation to whether it will play in Opus.
