When I try to open a file using the menu "File - Open", Opus 2.81 doesn't do anything (I do not get the file dialog to select the file). The only way to work with my files is to doubleclick on the file in the Windows Explorer, so Opus will start using it.
I have completely uninstalled Opus and reinstalled it again, but this doesn't seem to work.
It is only in Opus that I have this strange problem; All other software works OK...
Any suggestions to solve this strange problem?

Jan

Hi,

Thank you for your enquiry.

I would first recommend initialising the Opus registry settings to eliminate the possibility of a corruption in the registry settings. To do this:

- Ensure that Opus is not running

- Click Start > All Programs > Illuminatus Opus to open the program group

- Position the cursor over the Illuminatus Opus application shortcut (but do not click)

- Position two fingers over the Ctrl and Alt keys in the bottom-left of the keyboard

- Left-click on the application shortcut to launch the program, then immediately depress the Ctrl and Alt keys simultaneously and keep them depressed

- A prompt should appear on-screen asking if you wish to clear the application registry settings. Click Yes

- Now check to see if you are able to open the File > Open dialog

If the problem persists, I suspect that Opus is encountering problems communicating with your currently-installed graphics drivers and would recommend the following procedure:

- Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > System

- Select the Device Manager tab (if you are using Windows 2000 or XP, you will need to select the Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button)

- You should see a list of hardware types currently installed on your machine. Click on the plus-sign next to the Display Adapters entry to display the corresponding component

- Make a note of the make, model and any other information displayed
- Now visit the manufacturer's website (in most cases, this will be either www.nvidia.com, www.ati.com or www.matrox.com) and click the Download Drivers link on the homepage

- Follow the on-screen instructions to locate the latest drivers for your model of graphics card. Once located, download and install the drivers using any advice given on the manufacturer's site. If you have any problems locating the latest drivers, please let me know the make and model of your graphics card and which version of Windows you are using and I will be happy to locate these files for you

Once the latest drivers have been installed and the system restarted, please launch Opus and try to replicate the problems you previously encountered.

I hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries.

Kind regards,

Hello Robin,

Thanks for the answers, but both options didn't work!
The good news however is... I managed to solve the problem...
First of all, I must admit, that I probably have caused the problem myself...
In the shortcut properties, under "compatibility", the option "Run this programme in compatibility mode for Windows 98 / Windows ME" was selected... Unchecking this, solved the problem! (I am running Windows XP pro).
