Hi

I've been trying to insert a relatively small video file, with an .asf extension, into a 05 XE publication. Each time I try, the program freezes up, requiring the Windows Task Manager, which then closes down the entire program.

I can get the same .asf video to play in the publication by using a button and launch file action, but would prefer to insert the video into its own page.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

My other question is about finding the best codecs for compression, to keep video publications as small as possible for downloading. I tried a simulation in 05 XE (video creator) and came up with an enormous file, too large for downloading. Are there some tricks I'm missing?

Kind Regards,
Stephen

ASF files are known to cause problems with a range of software. The format is really designed to be a streaming web format and does not behave well when run from a local machine. Media player can sometimes play corrupt ASF files because it is more fault tolerant when dealing with streaming formats.

When you publish an Opus publication as video you get to select different codec’s from the setting option. You will need to play around with different codec’s to decide which suites your particular needs. If you have it installed the DivX format is very popular and offers a good mix of both size and quality.
