I am atempting to do what I know sould be extremely easy, however it doesn't seem to work.

I created an application with Opus Pro 4.5. From with in it I want to open a second application (created with Opus). I create a hyperlink for the user to click on and use the Launch File action pointing to the second .exe file. I test it and it works fine. I publish it and nothing happens when I click the link. What am I doing wrong?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Dave

Look again at the Launch File Action... the problem will likely be in the box that says "The file will be found at this location"

Presumably you want the file to be within the publication directory, so insert the variable <SYSTEM_PUBLICATION_DIR> then put the .exe file in the root of the publish folder and it should now work.

Thank you for the quick response. I tried selecting <SYSTEM_PUBLICATION_DIR> and had the same results (it didn't work). I played around a little to try and figure out why it would not work. I found that if I publish as "Create a stand alone publication" the link DOES work. But when I publish as "Create an iO plugin based stand alone publication" it DOES NOT work.

Does this feature not work with the iO plugin? Or is there an additional step when doing it that way? :?:

Thanks again
Dave

Dave,

Someone else can no doubt give you a more detailed answer, but if you're publishing for the web, then you're not going to be allowed to launch a .exe file... I guess there'd be chaos if such files could be run direct from a website.

(You know, here's a .exe file to wipe clean your hard drive / send your bank details to known fraudsters / send 10,000 emails to the Government)

But I can't think of a smart alternative... someone else's turn now!

Linda

That is an excellent point and one that I had not even considered. It makes sense though. My initial intention is to install it on a PC but eventually it will need to be on the web so I need to consider this.

One alternative would be to have the second file in Flash format but I am not sure if the same method would work. I will have to try it out. Sorry if some of this is obvious but I am a rookie still trying to get up to speed.

This is an exciting product with a great deal of potential so I just need to keep plugging away.

Thanks for the feedback.
Dave
