Hello,

I have a problem with one of my pc and opus that is very hard (for me) to understand. If somebody have an idea....

The problem :
1- i have a static page . Delay on this page . Goto page YYY(this page YYY have a video)
2- When i run in preview mode the static page with a delay of 5 or 10 minutes : everything play well
3- When i run in preview mode the static page with a delay of 5 or 10 minutes with loop : everything play well (2 hours and more)
4- When i run in preview mode the static page with a delay of 15 minutes : the pc always Crash (runtime error) when the video is call (15 minute after the begin of the preview)

What i have done to find the solution (my system that crash is a dualcore with 2GB ram, a nvidia cards. I work intensively with programs like adobe premiere, lightwave 3d, macromedia fireworks... and of course it has only very few crash with those program) :
1- the preview crash on opus 6.0 or opus 5.5
2- it doesn't crash on my older pc
3- it crash with all mpeg2 files (even small mpeg2 file)
4- it crash with big (> 400mo) dvavi file but not with small dv avi file
5- it doesn't crash when publish !!!

My conclusion :
This pc have a problem with opus editor preview AND video file but ONLY when the video is launch after more than 15 minute of inactivity !!!

if somebody have an idea where to search...

thank you
benoit

The Good News is that it doesn't crash when you Publish! In the end, that's all that really matters. Since it takes 15 minutes to observe this problem, you've obviously spent a lot of time "waiting" for it to happen under all the different situations you described.

I know the OPUS editor wants to grab all the available RAM memory to operate. Are you running any other programs at the same time? What's the problem computer's Screen Saver set for? What about the Monitor Power settings (on the same page as Screen Saver)?

AVI files are not compressed. MPEG-2 files are highly compressed. So something is going wrong when the dual core computer has to do the uncompressing. Your older PC is probably NOT a dual core processor. Maybe it has something to do with the dual core.

I have a dual core replacement for my old Windows ME computer, but haven't used it. I will load v6 on it and try to duplicate your problem. I'll let you know if I can.

Sorry to hear about this "strange" problem.

thank,

the bad news (for me) is that i use a lot opus for live presentation... and for that, i always use opus in preview mode, because that allow me to change something at the last minute (even during presentation : the preview window is playing on the videoprojector, while i can modify the slide on an lcd monitor).
It is for that reason, that i'd like to resolve this problem (i use opus like that since more than 5 years now, without problem).

return to the problem :

1- No, i am not running any other programs at the same time?
2- screen saver are disable
3- Monitor Power settings / hard drive ... are disable
4- yes, my old pc is not a dualcore
5- i have try to disable graphic acceleration progressively and for the first time i have been able to play the program but only with "ALL" graphic acceleration disable.

So perhaps the problem is with my graphic card (it is a new nvidia with up-to-date driver) but... why is the problem occur only after 650 secondes of delay ??? (at 600 secondes that play good / between 600 and 650 secondes the program crash OR the video file is not display !!! (only the background of the slide ) / if more than 650 secondes the program always crash.

I have find too that during the authoring of my presentation that have some video in it, opus crash a lot more frequently (i was thinking that it was the fault of the 6.0 version but i don't think so anymore)

i am testing now without antivirus, and without all windows services (that could call something after 10 minutes of inactivity ) and after i'll look at dualcore (if it is possible to déactivate it) and at memory
My last try for today will be to change my graphic card...

thank for your answer
benoit

Two things can solve the problem

1- disable all graphic acceleration
2- disable the sound card

It seems to me that the problem come with the sound card because i have try another graphic card and the program still crashing.

In the next few day i'll try another sound card (the driver of the actual sound card is up-to-date).
But the question still exist : why it crash only after 10 minutes ??
