Hi all,

While trying to fix a problem with hypertext (see my previous post) I selected the device font option for font below a given size. Although it did not fix the hypertext problem, it did improve the look of some of the text. I would like to keep this option however it does not seem to be applied to all text. I realise that text over the specified size would not be affected and it appears that text for buttons is not affected but I have 2 scrolling lists both Verdana size 10 one is displayed in it's original Verdana 10 format (a bit fuzzy) the other is displayed as a device font (Arial I think, much sharper) can anyone shed any light?

This project is being put in front of the customer next week and I like to resolve these issue before I meet them.

Many thanks
Terry

Hi Terry

Perhaps, this is or is not related:

I am having difficulty getting the hypertext fonts to properly customize and achieve stable display in a number of pubs, over time.

In some cases, you just can't add a custom font, in spite of repeated trying. A sample .imp with a list box is attached. I have been unable to add a custom hypertext font. The goal is to have a Calibri 10, bold, black, non-underlined hypertext font for a list box I am trying to create. I can't get it to work.

I don't believe that my Opus 5.5 XE has corrupted registry keys, as I've reset these. Drivers are all up to date. But, if someone else is able to create the customized hypertext font, then it's not an Opus issue but likely an issue related solely to my computer.

However, I suspect it's an Opus issue, in which case I hope it is remedied in V6.

Any help would be appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Hi Stephen,

I've experienced a similar problem, and this forum has a number of posts on the same subject going back over some time. Customising hyperlink text seems to be problematic and very inconsistent.

Given that hyperlinks are te mainstay of most web pages the process for creating them it needs to be reliable, consistant and with predicatable results.

Regards
Terry

I downloaded your sample, and tried to customise the font in the list box.

Now matter what I did, the changes would not stick.

Hi Terry

I couldn't agree more!

I hope V6 will successfully achieve customized hypertext fonts that remain stable throughout a pub. Currently, it's "hit or miss," with "miss" the more prevalent.

Kind Regards,

Thanks Ray for trying it out.

It's important to have confirmation to assure that it's simply not my computer causing the problem.

Now the ball's in DW's court to create a fix.

Kind Regards,

I think you're discussing two separate problems here and there are two distinct answers - because needless to say I can get Opus to do exactly what I want :-)

The problems with assigning custom styles to hypertext are almost certainly because new styles and their application tend to get done in the wrong order. If you try to adapt an existing style and then click New Style it will start again. We don't have a Save Style As.. Always click New Style and then create the style you want. Then once you've created the style, make sure it has been applied, using the Apply button and check that the properties were properly applied as occasionally they seem to want to reset.

The other problem - with the IMP example - is that hypertext is being used in a listbox so Opus does not know that you are trying to edit hypertext because list boxes have their own selection style etc - that's what is important to them. I'm not sure why you would want to use hypertext in a list box - either you want the list box function (for which hypertext is redundant) or you create a scrolling text box of hyperlinks. I am surpised it works at all as there potential for major conflict there.

However if you must then the way to do it is to create a text box with all the hypertext first, apply the relevant styles. Then right click and use the Convert to option to change the text box to a listbox. It should magically retain the hyperlink style and override the listbox settings but Opus won't let you go in and change the hypertext settings again because you now have a listbox.

Hope this helps.

Paul

Hi Paul

Thanks for your help.

What I am trying to create is a drop down list box (using reveal transitions) in which a user can select an item from the list, and it will trigger a variable change action to then display the selected variable's text in a separate text box.

I followed your suggestions, eliminated the hypertext and used the "store selected text" instead. That worked well!

I then customized the selection style. After the font behaving temperamentally at first, I finally achieved good results.:)

Thanks again for your help.

Kind Regards,

Hi Paul,

I wonder if you could shed some light on the problem that cause me to start this post. The fact that hypertext in flex publications do not seem to work consistantly requiring several clicks or cursor repositioning to make thm run the associated action, even though the cursor has changed to a pointing finger to indicate it's over a peice of hypertext. (works fine in preview mode).

Regards

Terry
