My publication is currently with a replication company who have applied Macro Vision Safedisc protection to the exe file. When trying to execute the application an unknown error is occuring. They are trying to sort it out but does anyone have any idea what the problem could be or how to solve it? I'm really only concerned with basic protection.
Is there anyone who has successfully encrypted an Opus publication for distribution.
Many thanks.

I don't know anything about Safedisc, but I have successfully protected Opus exe publications using Armadillo in the past. Initially there was a problem - which may also be the source of your difficulty - that the Opus publication's player could not find the resources to play once they had been encrypted. The then developer of Armadillo changed the way his program worked so that Opus could find its resources - by giving us the option to "leave program resources at the end of the file". This certainly worked (although I no longer use any form of encryption).

Thanks for that. I have sent a new master to Macrovision that was published using an uncompressed opus player so I hope that will work.
If not, how easy is it to encrypt with Armadillo? I cannot script. Would it still be possible for me or my replication company to apply it? I only want to protect against home users burning copies of my program.
Many thanks.

I've stopped using Armadillo as I now no longer use encryption at all, but it was fairly straightforward last time I used it (about 2 years ago). There was no need for scripting - you just walk through a series of screens when you want to protect a file. There are lots of options including tying a particular publication to one PC. Only the Armadillo Pro version would then work with Opus. The independent developer was bought out by Digital River and they've repackaged the program as Software Passport, but I've no experience of using that. They do have downloadable trial versions on the siliconrealms.com website.
