Opus: v 7.04

...for that full reply!
So I can see where people who had to use Director to make interactive 'gadgets' in museum displays could now do it with Opus.
I need to get googling...

thanks

Mac,

I would expect Opus could now be used quite easily for highly engaging education-play. Maybe visual games that use MIDI devices (even multiple devices)... and certain tones or tunes would navigate them to a new page ("room").

Thanks for replying Paul, I am still little disappointed in the upgrade after using it more..but, I have bought it anyway so I think it is fairly unnecessary continuing the comments on it, and it in no way leaves me unhappy with the product and you as a company...just a lesson I'll learn next time in using the evaluation copies to assess the changes and its worth.

I'm probably more concerned about rumours of more features at a cost than what I have already paid for this. You guys have always been very fair on upgrades to loyal customers and I for one appreciate that about you.

Opus: Opus Pro 9
OS: Win 10/64
I like to check v6 before upgrading, so I wonder if there is a demo version of Opus 6?

I also miss a price list for the upgrade.

Reading that there are no new features belonging Flash-Export and SCORM disappoints me too because these two things are most important for my work.

So it seems I have to upgrade only to get a stable version which runs with Windows Vista :?

T.

As far as I know there is no evaluation copy.

For a price, email DW, tell them what version/level of Opus you have and ask for an upgrade price.

If I have a complaint, it is a complaint that applies to every version of Opus that I have used. I would dearly love to see meaningful practical examples for scripting. By this I mean examples that can be interpreted by non-programming plebs like me. I recognise the power in scripting, and while I remain envious of this power, I have to put scripting on the back-burner.

Amen to that!! I've been an opus user since V2 and fell in love from the start, but as one of the "Non-programming plebs", I am still hoping for better script examples / wizzards etc.
I sometimes want to do something that i know should be possible, but in the end gets me on a dead track 'cause the only way to do it is via scripting. I don't think that the upgrade wasn't worth the money, since there are significant enhancements, but several of the new features I simply cannot use due to my lack of programming knowledge. I surely hope that there will be changes to this in the future.

Please tell us which OPUS v6 new features require ANY programming knowledge. I'm the BIGGEST non-scripting user of OPUS. I don't know what new features to which you are referring. In most case (not all), OPUS allows you to select Triggers and Actions from its menus which will do all the "internal" programming needed for complex projects. Yes, if you want to do Scripting (ouch -- why?) -- you can.

When I absolutely HAVE TO use Scripting, I email Chris Jones at "Graphics In Action," and pay him to write elegant code. I'll be interested in seeing if Chris has a list of v6 features which are "Script Only." I must have "blown right by them" if there are.

Hi Vera

I applaud your interest in learning more about scripting. As a great fan of Opus, having Pro 4XE, 5XE and now 6, and a novice at scripting, my experience is that while standard actions can accomplish a lot, some scripting ability can take Opus to a further level.

For example, standard actions can store to the default registry key, DigitalWorkshop>PublicationData, but if you would like to store to a key created using the pub's name, you will need to write a little script to write/read.

And, the new V6 runtime drawing features and calling external .dll's, both extraordinary actions, rely on scripting.

Having scripting tutorials coupled with illustrative sample scripts can be quite valuable. The more, the better. However, while these facilitate learning, especially the basics, the generously helpful responses of Forum colleagues and the DW team are the best way to learn. So, do ask a lot of questions. :)

Kind Regards,
