Hope someone out there can help!!!!!
I am creating a project to be written to CD which has alot of reference material in PDF format.
To make sure all our users are able to read the information I am creating a link at the beginning of the project to the published folder to activate and download the adobe acrobate exe. file onto their own computers. However, when I write the CD it does not work. I have given instructions to left mouse click, and in the Actions palette - Launch setup.exe. and in the drop down menu I have chosen the file will be found in: <system_publication_dir>. Is this correct ??. I think it is not working because it is still looking on my C drive where the project has been created.
Forever hopefull,
Dee

Hi Dee,

As long as the .exe is in the same folder (or root) as your publication then this should work. Where are you test running it from, the CD or the C drive?

P.S
I use UltraISO to create a virtaul CD rom drive and build CD images that way, I can test my CD without turning them in coasters if my settings are wrong.

Hi Dee

I eventually became so frustrated by the problems of using pdf files that I looked for a better solution. The problems that concerned me were: (i) clients not having Adobe Reader and not wanting to or being unable to download and install it; and (ii) more serious -- the incompatibility that has over recent years developed between older versions of the pdf format and current versions of Adobe Reader.

Eventually, I found PDF2EXE (from http://www.pdf2exe.com/). One version is free, and the pro version isn't that expensive. I've managed successfully with the standard version. The software include various options, with more available in the pro version.

Open PDF2EXE, select a pdf file and convert it to an .exe with the same name. Sure it adds some overhead, and it adds that to each exe file. When publishing to CD, that's not been a problem for me. Before I upload the package to my website, I convert it to a zip file so as to not upset firewalls etc.

I use the standard Launch File action in Opus, and hen I use the Distribution Wizard, I just add these exe files to the distribution package.

PDF2EXE won't suit everyone, but I find it one of the most useful utilities I have.

Hi there, I have been using "flashpaper" and I found my clients love it because it is easy to navigate and better architecture than pdf and since 99% of machines have the flash plugin it is a breeze.

You produce the document from inside the application by choosing at the time of printing flashpaper rather than pdf. When the printing windows open it gives you the option to create a version of the doc as a "macromedia flash paper" or as a pdf.

Flash paper can be incorporated in the Opus pubs by embed them into a html page and then creating a doc frame inside opus to view the doc or a browse field if you want.

I hope this helps. Go to Adobe and check for Macromedia Flash paper
