I agree with all so far, would really like to see Opus 6 soon. It has been three months since it was announced in late December and I for one am looking forward to it.

As for competitors, I tried to use Director recently and gave up, Flash is still good but it too has a difficult learning curve when compared to Opus. Although with the movement to more web based media I would like to see more Flash development for Opus.

The growth in Mac use may also make it useful to create a Mac export option, but that idea is often bashed around on this forum from time to time and never gets enough solid support. I for one would pay up to $500 for a Mac export option that supports all Opus features.

I saw a user review somewhere (maybe Cnet) that said there were plenty of resources but they could do with updating - will there be new ones with 6?

If you mean the clipart and sounds etc provided with the program then, no, there will be no new ones in the new release. We made some changes for v5.5 and we may update them further at a later date but no-one seemed to miss them when they weren't there so I'd guess they're not too important for most customers.

However, there are new borders, textures and we'll have some more samples to highlight the new features.

Also, as I see Digital Workshop UK has been dissolved, where does that leave us?
I seem to remember that DW UK was the company that took over from DW Group when that went into administration. We would all be grateful for some reassurance that DW is still a thriving company with a substantial workforce, ready to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

A lot of us took advantage of the upgrade offer for the early bird release of Opus v6 months ago.
If you were a frequent visitor to this forum you could not have missed the offer from DW; I guess you missed that and will have to wait for the public release of v6.

I am getting tired of seeing remarks about DW's company affairs. How they run their company is their business. As long as what ever software they produce works for me, I purchase it.
No company can give the assurances you want -- no-one can predict the future.
I use other software on a daily basis from companies that rumours said would be dead five years ago -- and they are still putting out new versions.

I agree completely with you. I too am fed up with seeing remarks such as those made by Tom H.

Deregistration of a company is not a big deal and such deregistration does not mean a parent company is having any financial difficulty whatsoever. When I was a manager some years ago, we often registered and deregistered company names for a variety of reasons and Digital Workshop is entitled to do the same.

Tim H - here's a challenge for you. How about you reveal your real name and document your motives for making the post that you just made?

BTW, what has happened to DW UK is NOT the deregistration of a company name. It has been dissolved by Companies House for failure to submit returns and accounts.

An examination of your few posts shows that you have made little attempt to assist forum members with their everyday issues and problems and maximum attempt to discredit DW.

I think I've said it all and might I add, given your response to revealing your name and your past posts, I won't bother wasting my time on your irrelevent posts again.

By the way, I fully support DW deleting irrelevent posts especially if they are irrelevent, spam or posts that are unhelpful to forum members.

They might even delete this post. That's fine by me!

It seems to me that if someone wants help learning OPUS, and they register their REAL NAME, and give accurate information regarding which OS, hardware, and their version of OPUS, we should help them. Otherwise, if someone lists false information, and misrepresents who they are, and why they are posting, they should be deleted from the board.

IMHO: The sole purpose of this Message Board is to help people who want to learn OPUS. Period. It is NOT a soap box for competitors, or disgruntal employees.

My apologies to all genuine customers for the way this thread has been hijacked. As some of you have already realised tomh is not a real user. He is an ex-employee called Steve Paxton. He’s been banned from this board repeatedly which is why he and his friends have to hide behind pseudonyms in order to post messages and send emails to try to suggest they are genuine users having serious problems with Opus and thereby trying to put off customers old and new.

Steve has been loitering around here as tomh for several weeks waiting to trash the launch of 06. As you can see he’s got fed up waiting. We’ll ban this pseudonym of course but he’ll be back no doubt. He’s been harrassing me and my family and Digital Workshop customers for two years now so I doubt he’ll stop anytime soon.

As usual Steve is dredging up old news to try to make it look as though Digital Workshop (Europe) Ltd is in trouble and/or doesn’t deserve your business. The fact of the matter is that we did have a very difficult time after Corel took over Jasc and several of our companies collapsed. We are a small company again but that means we are focussed completely on Opus and that has been a blessing in disguise.

The observant among you will notice that tomH has now edited his diatribe completely out of existence. Either he realised he would be facing legal action or he wants to make it look like it was so scary it had to be deleted.

Thanks for the explanation - I read the thread with increasing bemusement. Both Paul and Graham have been nothing but helpful to the many many contented users of this excellent programme so I was somewhat shocked at their initial reaction to Steve's posting - especially as at first it seemed a genuine question and overall concern for the product.
However the real agenda soon became all too clear.

I obviously have no insight into the specific issues that Steve mentions - but what I would like to say (for my part) - is that in my last position when working for the MOD in the UK - I had a requirement to work on a number of occasions with and had nothing but excellent service from DW (including in the past, Steve Paxton).

The lengths that DW went to, to accommodate my needs was extraordinary. They were honest, fair, diligent and true to their word and I believe very customer focussed - even to the point of delivering the specific requirements that I needed in later releases to all users.

It was this attitude that convinced me to remain loyal to Opus (as well as a belief in the product and it's ultimate direction and capabilities) after the initial conversion from illuminatus. Some of you may rememember those early months of total frustration?

So - thanks again Paul. I for one wish you and DW well in the future.
I do hope too, that Steve Paxton is able to resolve his differences and moves on to better things.

Lets get back on track - and focus on Opus!

Hi Steve and forum members

I'd like to apologise for being rather forthright in my earlier posts but not for what I actually wrote. This forum is intended to support Opus users and is not the place to air grievances or to drag other people, intentionally or otherwise into your past issues.

Steve - like Pete's post immediately above this post, I also have no insight into the issues you raised but may I say that in the context of your life, you have to, and need to, move on and go on to bigger and better things with your life.

It is no good staying where you are now and to dwell on what happened in the past for one second longer.

You have, as I recall, excellent knowledge and skills and if you think for a moment, you'll realise you have a lot of good things in your life to embrace and be thankful for. Put your energies and efforts into positive things that will make you a winner; celebrate what you have and let the unpleasant stuff through to the keeper and out of your life.

It works for me and it will work for you.

Give it a go Steve and I guarantee you'll feel a lot happier.

Paul, there is no need to apologise because you haven't done anything wrong. Your product is superb and your customer's service is a legend. These two elements determine whether a product is success or a failure and in your case, a great success.

I'll always be loyal to Opus since for a long time it has been an important tool in my business: my bread and butter.

Keep up with the excellent work! BTW, when is the final public release of Opus 6.0?
