I recently purcased Opus V6 Early Bird Upgrade (upgraded from 5.5 XE)

Bearing in mind the announcement by Paul Harris on the 23 June, do I have the latest complete version - have additional bits been added since then, changes made, etc. or should I be downloading (free, of course) a later version ?

Glenn

All existing customers of v6 will be sent a link to download the public release in the near future (during the working week - I'm answering from home in my spare time!)

Hi Duncan, DW et al.
I received your email with the links to Opus version 6.
I downloaded and before I run the installation I deleted the old "early bird" version which so far was working ok.
Now, after I installed the new version my computer crashes all the time when I tried to start Opus. I decide to uninstall the program to be able to reinstall it, BUT it will not let me in uninstall giving me the message: "cannot find uninstalled logo" or something like that.
What is going on? I can't uninstall and it is not working fine...

More hassles...Since it will not let me uninstall, I am trying to install it again on top to see if that correct the issue and now the installation goes fine until 10 seconds to finish, the installation stop working. (see pic attached)
I need to finish a project so please help me asap.
Germa

Hi German,

I encountered this problem with the early bird download. I removed the existing copy of Buttoneer from the fonts directory (this is where the installation stalled on my system), rebooted and installation went ahead without a hitch.

German,

I had to uninstall the early bird copy from the command prompt. When I tried removing it using the Windows' Add/Remove feature it stated it could not find the install.log file.

Example: unwise.exe install.log

My final copy installed without a problem. Could it be a problem with your download.

I downloaded the final version and it installed without problems.
Because the server load is always heavy for a new version release, I used a download manager (Getright) that kept resuming for me.
Opus installation problems are possibly due to file corruption during the download.

cheers
Paul

I haven't received the said link at all !

I also ordered a copy of the CD. I presume they will be sent out just as soon as the final copy is (more or less) bug free.

I have tried and tried and tried and still the final version of opus 6.0 fails to install when only 10 seconds left from the installation.
Still this font ( I can remember the name)name appears and the wholy thing freezes!
I even tried to install the early bird version that was working fine until I decided to uninstall it and install this final version instead!
Now, even the early bird version refuses to install! I have gone to font folders and delete the font in question, re-boot machine and try again and still freezes 10 seconds before the end of installation.
I need to finish a project asap because is due now and still I can't get the bloody thing to work!!
Please DW, come to the rescue!
German

Hi German,

Have you tried to using the Restore Wizard to roll back your system to point before installing Opus 6 final release?

Hi German

Do you have a spare computer?

DW can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the terms of the licence allows you to install Opus on another machine provided you do not use more than one copy of Opus at the same time.

If I had a spare computer, I'd lend it to you but I don't have one.

A long shot but how much space do you have on your hard drive? I'm wondering if there is something else going on with your computer that is causing your install problem.

Have you turned off your AV software and disconnected from the net? Sht down any tsr's etc

My dad reported a very slow computer and when I looked at it last weekend, he had two anti-virus programmes running at the same time and this was causing problems. Deleted one and the computer now speeds along merrily indeed.

Good luck with this one

Cheers

Graham

Hi Graham, I have tried anything possible, even closing antivirus and still the same. What I find interesting is that the early bird was installed and run without a problem and now ...

I'm still waiting for DW and I can't use the system restore because I have it inactive in order to prevent viruses and spyware residents in memory. This "system restore" is a window trap.

Hi Koala,

A couple of things that you may have already tried:

1. Delete all DW keys from the registery & manually delete DW folders.
2. Install Opus under a new windows profile.
3. If machine is powerfull enough, run Opus in MS Virtual PC.
4. If HD is partitioned, create backup of Windows, re-install with Opus until project is finsihed and then re-image.

If it's possilbe & practical, and you still can't get Opus up-and-running, then maybe we can help with the project that you need finished?

Mack,

The other thing you might like to try is to go to control panel, click add/remove programs and uninstall and then click the repair radio button.

I have sent you an email offering assistance also.

Cheers

Graham
