Post subject: Keeping track of recent pages viewed
PostPosted: July 9th, 2007, 6:25 am
For a few weeks, I've been grawing at this issue, and unfortunately, seem to be no closer than when I started.

The pub on which I am currently working is text-based, but on present estimates could have as many as 4000 to 5000 pages, thereby requiring an enhanced type of navigation. I've included an auto bookmarking logon system that will automatically return a user to the last page opened, but...

I would like to be able to display a drop-down object (text, list-box, whatever) which will show the last few pages, say 5, visited by the user.

Preferably, this would show the most recent page at the top, and this page would migrate down the list until it drops off the end.

To perhaps complicate this a bit more, I would prefer it if each page title could be a hyperlink so the user, by clicking on the title, moves automatically to the page.

I've not worked with arrays, but it seems to me that it might be possible to add this changing page list to an array. Unfortunately, that's where my creative juices dry up.

Can anyone suggest a possible solution? Please bear in mind that I'm pretty hopeless at scripting.

Hi Sentosa,

Have you download the Opus functions publication that I posted a while back. It's on the Interaktiv website under iZones. It contains a table of contents system that get the page name and build a scrollable array from them. The array element can be click and you jump straight to that page.

You'd basically need a simular system. Each pag visted parses the page name and populates and array.

(If this needs to keep track of the last five, then before you add the current page, simply reassign the other values. IE cell 5 = cell 4, cell 4 = cell 3, cell 3 = cell 2, cell 2 = cell 1 and cell 1 = current page)

Then in your history drop down, display the array contents.

Mack,

Hi Mack

No, I haven't downloaded that file. At the time you posted it, I had no idea that I'd be needing to build my knowledge of arrays. It sounds like it might be what I want.

I'll try and find it and download it.

Thanks

I tried this link from your home page but nothing happened. http://www.interaktiv.co.uk/izones/func ... ctions.htm

If that's not what you meant to happen, you might need to check it out :D

Hi Sentosa,

It's a plexus publication and runs fine in FF. IE catches it under the ActiveX block, but you can choose to run this anyway and it then runs fine.

Let me know if this doesn't work

Mack

Hi Mack

I'm also having trouble in both IE and FF probably the same problem Sentosa is having.

All I get is a page that says hit the spacebar or enter to use this control and then after I do, I just get a blank black coloured screen.

I even had a red wine to see if that would make a difference but alas 'no difference". Two or three red wines would probably make a difference though :D

Thanks
Graham

:-( Not sure what is going on here then. If you send me some screen shots, something might jump out.

I've added the zip to the downloads section on the Interaktiv website, under OS and Free sub-folder.
