I have a client who has a number of documents for users to view and wants to do this from within the publication, i.e. in a text box on a page.

I know that it is possible to load a specific file into a text box when a page loads butis it possible to do this when moving to that page from a different page?

For example, is it possible to set up buttons on a page which when pressed display a page called, say, info, which has a text box on it. Button one when clicked would launch the page and display text file 1 and button two the same page but with text file 2 displayed.

Would a script be the answer and if so how would I start to find out how to do this?

Sounds like a job for Multiframes. Load text into the frames and navigate using Multiframe actions on the button(s)

1. create a global variable
2. for each button pass the name + path of the file to be open to the variable and then goto the docview page.
3. On the docview page add the variable from step 1 instead of a path/name.

When you click the button, the file will be loaded into docview frame. You can even use a lookup to browse for the file if necessary.
