I've been reading through each new episode in the saga and it seems that there is no obvious solution to your problem.

You've received advice and suggestions from some of the most experienced and technically proficient Opus users. I find it interesting that none of them has mentioned encountering similar issues across a range of hardware, OS, graphics cards, DX versions and Opus versions.

My suggestion, based on what I've read, is something you're unlikely to want to hear: the issue(s) appear to be isolated to your environment :?

I'm sure that your as aware as the rest of us that when a computer system/application "breaks" like yours has done, it's usually because we've changed some hardware, updated/upgraded some vital software, or corrupted something.

Short of reformatting your drive and reinstalling Windows, I'd say that you've done everything possible to resolve this issue. That's not a task ti be lightly undertaken :) -- I know from bitter experience :(

I note that you're using Opus v4. I recall that on some hardware I had and when I changed OS, it became a bit of a "dog". My recollection is that v4 wasn't the most stable of the Opus platforms. Is it possible that you might be pushing its limit to the point where it just won't work?

I know this doesn't help, but I felt that maybe you might need to refocus. Good luck, I hope that you somehow resolve your problems.

 I guess I broke my PC then

Thank you for all your help and comments

I've had to resort to using another laptop for now, until I have time to re-install XP. (I won't be using Opus on two screens again)

I'm also using V6 and it's with V6 I have the problem.

Oh well.

I'm not sure what can have happened to your setup - Opus 6 definitely supports and works with multiple monitors - I'm using on my secondary display right now,

Most of the dialogs in Opus will remember their positions, but if you change the monitor setup so that the old location doesn;t exist any more they should default back to the primary display.

However the About box does not do any of that (it simply appears centred on the main window). So if that is not showing then something has gone very awry.

How does your multi-monitor setup work? Are you using the standard Windows system or some other software?

If you haven't already dones so I would suggest manually deleting the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Digital Workshop\Opus Professional 6

which will remove all window settings and make Opus default back to the primary display.

Yes, I have a Dell Latitude and use it on a docking station, with an extra monitor attached. I use XP to contol them.

I did delete that reg entry before, but no luck.

This all started when Opus crashed and showed about 6 error messages. Since then it has stopped working.

Post subject: It's so easy to get unwanted intrusions onto our systems
PostPosted: August 16th, 2007, 7:21 am
During the course of this thread, I and others have mentioned hardware/software changes that can cause these strange happenings that jezjones29 has reported.

Yesterday, I encountered an issue that reinforced just how easy it is for events like to happen with no involvement on our part.

I use several filtering programs and firewalls to monitor what comes down the line, and allow very little through. I thought I was pretty safe.

Until yesterday, I allowed automatic Windows updates. OK, I know that was foolish, and while I use no MS software other than Windows, I thought I should be able to trust their updates.

After yesterday's update, I lost control of my non-MS wireless keyboard because a previously available .exe file was now missing.

The only possibility for this to have happened, was via the 12 updates included in the latest MS batch. I did a System Restore to the previous day, and the problem disappeared.

So, it is really easy to have something change our systems, and for us to not be aware of it.

BTW, further investigation suggests that MS, in its all-embracing wisdom, decided that my .exe file was a trojan (or something of a similar ilk) and just deleted it.

I know this is an old topic but I am experiencing the same problem as jezjones29 and was wondering if anyone had any more ideas fix this?

I work on a dual monitor system and have been using opus pro for some time with no problems but now all of a sudden can't get the properties window to open? Tools/options won't display, Help/about opus wont display, nor will publication propeties, chapter propeties, page propeties or any image/video/frame ect.

Ive tried uninstalling reinstalling, resetting opus setting and swapping my monitor setting (as suggested by benoit). I can't seytem restore back far enought to correct this problem as I don't know exactly when it started.

I might also mention that I don't think that the propeties window is opening at all as apposed to Jezjones29 thinking it might be opening on a monitor that can't be seen because normaly when propeties window first appears it takes focus and turns the main program window to the inactive color. When I attempt to open the propeties window my main program window stayes active and in focus.

Any help would be appreciated
Danny
