I know this might be a technical issue but before i go to Tech support i want to know if others have seen the same thing......?

I will try and explain it best i can ,

I make a publication with a master page , but for a while when i click on the properties of the pages i can't see all the tabs ( example: transitions) but yet on the master page i can see all the options . The next step i did was to delette the master page and all of the options came back under "properties " but if i try and run the publication , it just appears for 1/2 a second and disapears .

If i didnt know better i would say its a corruption of the files , but it is happening quite frequently and all my work is getting screwed up .

What i have to do to save the Pub is to remake a NEW publication and copy and paste all the functions i have made back onto the new Pub......

Has anyone else seen this ?

I run on XP SP2 with a AMD 5000+ Dual core with 1 gig memory :?:

Could you by any chance post an example of the problem?

Are you saying that you have a master page that includes some objects that display the object properties when you work on the actual master page, but when you try to work on a page which uses that master page you cannot view the properties?

If I understand your problem, I'm pretty sure that is the way that Opus works. You can only modify a master page object on the actual master page itself, not from a page that uses the master page.

Al -

I've been build all new Pubs in v6, and updating old 5.5 and 4.5 Pubs to v6 and have had NO problems. Nothing like you are describing has appeared in any of my Pubs. I defrag monthly. I have five very large HDs (the newest is 1T) which I used to store finished projects.

I'd suggest resetting your Regisry and/or reinstalling v6. Something is happening on your computer.

Hi Al

This can be a real issue sometimes. It caused me a lot of problems when I first started using master pages. Let me make a couple of comments that might help.

1. Nesting. If you have a complex MP, you can break it into several separate MPs, with objects logically grouped in separate pages. Opus lets you "nest" MPs. For example, You set up MP1 and mark it as MP1. Then you set up another page with more objects, and on the Page Properties, mark it as being MP2. You also mark MP2 as being able to be a MP. When you set up another page (not a MP this time) if you assign this page to use MP2, you effectively get both MP1 and MP2. As far as I know, there is no limit to this nesting. The most I have done is 11 nestings. It just takes some planning :D

2. Save objects to a gallery. If you need to use and re-use an object repeatedly on different pages, I suggest that you do this:
a) Set up a new page using the MP that is appropriate. Place the object exactly where you want it to be. Assign the properties (including repeated text) that you want to apply to this object. Give this object a meaningful name.
b) Go to the Components Menu, and click New Gallery. Give this a unique meaningful name.
c) Right-click on the object, click Copy To Gallery and choose the appropriate Gallery.
This object is now stored in that gallery. Anytime you need to use that objects again, you paste it onto the target page. It is placed in exactly the same positions as the original.

I suggest you read the Help Files for more info on copying and pasting to and from galleries.

I find this one of the more useful features in Opus.

WOW , now thats a explanation

I will make a Pub and try out this nesting idea as i can see it as a very valuable feature .

Again , Thanks for your time and the only other thing i have to learn is how to use the scripts that come with OPUS , i find the Help files to be very vague on how to use them as i need to place a UTC clock on the pub i am working on...

Al

I've sent you an email with some thoughts on UTC and a sample pub.

Before you start scripting, make sure you download the OpusScript Manual in PDF. I find it easier to use than the Help files ... but you won't be the first to claim that I;m weird
