My question how do I get both the Question Setter and the Test into the same pub.

I downloaded the Example as a ZIP file, then unZIP it, which gave me: Question Setter.IMP and Test.IMP. I used OPUS v6 to open both IMP files at the same time. I started a NEW PUB, so I had three IMP files working at the same time.

I went to the Question Setter Pub within the Organizer (left side of the Editing screen). I copied the Page, then pasted it into my new Pub in Chapter 1. The Test.IMP file has three Chapters. I copied and pasted each Chapter individually into my new Pub.

There is one more step. It is actually the MOST IMPORTANT STEP. While you can copy Pages and Chapters, OPUS does NOT automatically copy VARIABLES. My new Pub only has System Variables (which in v6 you can make "invisible", which allows you to only view Variables you've created. Remember, Variables are Case Sensitive, so "A" is not the same as "a". I had to create NEW Variables to exactly match the Variables from each Publication. Question Setter had 12 Variables (A1, A2, A3...Question), while Test had 10 Variables (a1, a2, a3...total).

In each Publication, go to Edit->Publication Properties->Variables (tab) to see all the Variables and whether they have an Initial Value, which you need to set. Recreate each one in the new Pub using the Add button.

An alternate way, which will save you creating some Variables, would be to open Question Setter, for example, and do a SAVE AS under a new name, then simply add the Chapters with their Pages from the Test.IMP. Since the Varialbes are already created for "Question Setter" you only have to create/add Variables used in the other Pub.

Opus 6 has the abiliity to Import or Export variables: Publication Properties > Variables -- right-hand panel.

I've successfully used this to carry variables between 2 v6 pubs, but have not tried it between say a v5 and a v6.

I haven't the time at present to experiment as you've done, but with your setup using Brendan's IMP, you might like to check and see if Opus will export from his file and then import into the v6.

As soon as I read your response about OPUS v6 being able to IMPORT VARIABLES, I remembered that as a new feature (which I haven't needed to use). If you don't use a new feature, you can forget it exists. THANKS for the reminder.

I noticed you indicate you have OPUS v4. Do youself an immense favor and upgrade to OPUS v6, or at least go to v4.5. There were many fixes to v4 (hence v4.5). Once you use OPUS v6, you will be very glad you upgraded, and you'll never want to use the old version again (plus there will be no reason to).

I've 'upgraded' to 4.5 and as soon as I get a few dollars together (I'm on a pension) I'll go for Opus 6

I’m still having a bit of problem with this quiz.
I have copied the Variables into the new Pub. I’ve saved this file.

When I run the program it will accept the questions, but the FINISH button doesn’t do anything and I am not sure at this point what actions to apply to the various buttons to trigger the correct response.

The project I am working will eventually be a CD Show Dog Quiz having at least 100 questions on dog standards and a heap more on Anatomy, Physiology, Showing etc

I thought a nice addition would be a "do it your self quiz" page, hence these questions.
any help greatly appreciated.

Can you by any chance post your IMP file (and resources) as an attachment?

That way we might be able to figure out what's causing the problem.

Sorry, never heard of a "rar" file extension. It appears to be a unique compression program. How about using a more standard "Zip" compression to send your sample. I'd love to help you IF I can uncompress your Pub.

rar is a reasonably common archive format. While I agree that people posting attachments might be better advised to use the zip format, it is possible to open rar files with the latest commercial version of WinZip -- but who's likely to pay for the right to be able to help someone?

I've managed to unzip your rar file and load it into Opus 6 -- but unfortunately, that hasn't helped me to understand your problem.

I said in a personal email to you that I found the Question Wizard over-complex and limited, and therefore preferred to develop my own quizzes. After looking through your example, that is still the case -- not your fault, just my inability to understand the workings of the wizard

However, for what it's worth, I noted a couple of things that seem strange to me.

1. Chapter 1 "Next Question" Something about the script defining the array does not look right. I rarely use arrays, so am not expert in this. Someone who knows more about scripting and arrays might confirm that what you have is right, but I can't offer an opinion.

2. Chapter Questions, Page 1, buttons. The "Go to page" action is empty. In a conditional statement, this strikes me as being unusual.

The upshot of my examination is that I am not able to help you.

Better luck with someone who knows more about using this wizard.

Thanks for your help. It's all a bit Chinese to me.
I followed Fred's tutorial to the letter but I feel that the buttons need extra actions for the quiz to work.
Maybe Fred may have different approach to the 'problem'
As I have have only been using Opus for a few weeks and as the program is extremely powerful and complex, I have a long ways to go.

The use of rar files raises an issue about which some people might be confused. I'll try and add some light to this.

I use and have used WinZip in preference to other archive software. About 12 months ago I started to find that I could not always unzip downloaded zip files. Upon investigation, I learned that many of the archiving applications had introduced greater degrees of compression.

This had the effect of making it impossible/very difficult for users of older versions of archiving software to work with these higher compression rates.

To compensate for this, I bought the latest full version of WinZip. This allows me the option of selecting varying degrees of compression. If I chose a high resolution I found that some of the alternative archiving software could not handle that compression.

In practical terms, this means that when I upload files for download from my website, I have to avoid the higher compressions because some people cannot open them.

Just an observation from my limited experience.

Can you describe exactly what it is that you are trying to do? Can you include 1-2 examples of the questions and answers you will use? Are you planning to record scores and depending on these scores, implement different actions?

If you can do this, either by posting here, or by emailing the information to me, I'll try and mock up a pub for you -- but it won't be using the wizard.
