Hi

I have a new Vista computer, so I tried to install Opus Pro V6 and got an error message each of the 2 times I tried. I am attaching the jpeg showing that it is the same error as discussed in another post. I also tried the remedy that was suggested in that Forum posting and got the same error, so no resolution.

please see:

viewtopic.php?t=2777&highlight=occache+dll

Any help getting V6 installed on my new Vista computer would be appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Stephen

Hi Steven,
Welcome to Vista. :)
Has Opus installed at all?
If not make sure you are logged in as administrator.
I was having problems installing Opus from an ordinary user profile.
You will still get the error message but Opus seems to work ok.

Hi Paul

Yes, quite a welcome to the world of Vista. So far, having not done a thorough try out of Opus, it appears to have installed, boots up and generally looks like its working. Absent the .ocx, I'm sort of waiting for "the other shoe to drop." Can't guess if and when it may show up as an issue.

I installed as Administrator, followed the remedies carefully to try to register the file, but, as mentioned, the error message came up again on re-installing, in spite of this.

I am hopeful that DW creates a fix in case this absent file's functionality diminishes Opus' functionality. I waited a long while to purchase a machine with Vista, until I felt it was here to stay, mature enough, some of the bugs removed.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

Kind Regards,

Stephen

Hopefully the first Vista service release (due first quarter 2008) will sort out a few of the problems.

I also hope so, but how should this installation problem of the main program can be fixed by an SR? As I told in another post I cannot install Opus 6 on Vista too. In the meantime I have switched back to XP but this cannot be a permanent solution.

I had problems at first, but I just made vista run it under the XP settings, now it woks fine, I have lots of software like this. It's not really DWs fault but I'm sure there is an easy fix ;-)

New operating systems cause problems -- you just have to go with the flow, unfortunately.
Things tend to get fixed once everyone gets used to the new OS.

any news belonging to this topic? I still cannot run Opus 6 under Vista. Everytime I try to start it, it get the following error message:

"Cannot load version information. - Please reinstall your product.
If the problem persists please contact your product vendor."

I and others have done so but unfortunately we hear no help from DW.

Other than jezjones29 I have not a single application on my machine which does not work with Vista. At least all other vendors of software with Vista problems have updatet their products in the meantime so that I can use them now withtout problems.

The only inglorious exception is Opus 6. Even Opus 5 and even the Opus 6 demo run with Vista. So I cannot imagine that it should be so hard to fix this problem.

Tarantoga,

I had this message many times in 5.5.
It started after I installed a new virus / registry checker.
Every time i reinstalled opus, after the first time of using it i would get that message. Do you have such a program installed?

I had to uninstall the program before I could get opus to work correctly again.

The "Cannot load version information" problem is almost always caused by registry "cleaner" or "protection" programs. Opus stores its installation information in the registry - anything that removes that information will prevent Opus working.

Duncan, thanks for this information. Sadly it does not help in any way. I have switched off my virus scanner (AVG) and everything that can modify or block the registry. The result stays the same.

I can now (after reregistration of occache.dll) install Opus 6. But when I try to start it at the end of the installation process I get the a.m. error message.

Please tell me which registry entry is necessary to avoid this error and I will try to edit it manually.

Hi Tarantoga,

Can I suggest that you look at a tool called the advanced registry tracer (ART). It allow you to snapshot your registery and compare the two snaps. This way, you might be able to find what is being changed.

Hi,

this is what I found out with ART. There are only a few registry entries made by the Opus installation. (Maybe this can be because I have it installed and uninstalled several times before?).

You can see a version information within the uninstall folder. Unfortunately the error message after trying to start Opus 6 stays the same.
