I Created MPG file from adobe after effects CS2, I choose MPEG2 Format in Output module Setting, Audio 44.100 kHz 16 bit. In The MPEG2 Export Setting we Choose PAL MPEG-2 Generic. After i render the video i got the file with extension mpg.

The problem is when i load the files (*.mpg) in opus V6, the Opus Hang, we need to end task the opus from windows task manager and start the Opus program again.

my question is :

1. What wrong with it ?
2. Can Opus Pro V6 Support file M2V

i waiting for any comment that can help

Thanks

Two points:

1. Did you by any chance search "MPEG2" on these forums? See top of page for "Search". You might find your answer there.

2. You will get "better" and "faster" responses if we know more about your hardware, OS, etc.

To save repeating this each time you post, please go to "Profile" (again at the top of the screen) find the "signature" panel, and enter anything that might be useful. For example, see what appears at the bottom of my post :)

i use mpeg2 in opus pro since several years without problem.
some month ago i bougth a new dual core pc (xp, 2go ram...) , and i have a lot of problem now, in using mpeg2 in opus (i have to use my old pc if i need mpeg2 in opus). The problem is when authoring... after publishing, everythings work well....

I have try a lot of things to resolve the problem (ram, disable dual core, change graphic card, disable some hardware...) and only the désactivation of all graphic acceleration (witch is not the solution !!!) seem to resolve for some time the problem (it crash less often). When i use wmv file the problem doesn't occur.

Benoit -

Try this: Double-click on the problem Video Object, then at the top of the Properties window which appears, click on the "Video" tab. At the bottom in the center is "Video Type." Click the "Change" button, then change the selection from "Chroma Key" to "On Top." This causes OPUS to use the Windows Media Player instead of it's own viewer/player.

If the Windows Media Player doesn't fix your problem, then you will need to create your MPEG-2 files with either different settings in your current video editor, or try a different video editor. I have used Pinnacle's Studio 9 Plus for years to make MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files which work perfectly in all versions of OPUS.

When you use On Top, you can't have a Border, and you can't put anything "over" the Video Object. Let us know if this fixes your problem.

thank you,

that's right that using on top is one of the solution but... i always use chromakey or even rendered because of the need of surimpression. My mpeg2 are always good mpeg2 and as i have said before, the problem occur only with my newest pc. This problem occur only when i am in authoring mode. After publishing everything is good. I have spend a lot of time to find a solution but nada... that is not a big problem for me because i use my old (only two years old) pc for opus and my new pc for programs that need more power (adobe premiere, lightwave...).
I was just answering to "avid" to show him that opus, when it is in authoring mode, can conflict with mpeg2 (even good mpeg2) on some pc configuration.

Dear, Sentosa, Demofred and Benoit.

Thanks for all your suggestion, I've tested, but the Opus Pro V6 Still Hang. Below is the answer to you :

Mr. Sentosa :

This is My HP Configuration.

Ms Win XP Professional with Service Pack 2, HP Computer XW9400 Workstation Dual Core AMD Opteron 2 GHz, with 4 GB RAM, Radeon 1950 Pro, Promise Raid Controller w/4 x 500 GB HDD (2 TG, 4 + 0 Stripping), System HDD 1 x 250 GB, External HDD 5 x 500 GB (Via USB & 1394), Video Card Matrox Axio LE inside, LiteOn DVDROM, 2 x 20” ViewSonic (3200 x 1200). QuickTime 7.1.3.

Mr. Demofred :

I Can Import the Video with AVI format (I must choose chroma key because i put a pic above the video to overlay).

The Problem is my Video too big to fit in my projects (above 2 GB), so i try to convert my Video with AVI format (Cinepak Codec) to "mpg" format, but when i import in Opus Pro V6, the Opus Hang.

My Question is :

1. Is there any wrong with the conversion, because i can play the "mpg" file from windows Media Player.

2. Is there any other conversion software to convert AVI Format to "mpg" or other format that can be axcepted by Opus V6, and still can maintain the color and quality, please advise. (fyi my video size is 320 x 320 pixel)

3. Can the Opus V6 Support Video with FLV format later ?

Mr. Benoit :

Thx for your explain, but i think the problem not in the Computer, I've installed many video codec and render the video to merge the codec in my HP, XPC (Shuttle SN27P2, 2 GB RAM, 1 GB Display Card Leadtek PX 7950 GX2 TDH, WinXP SP2, 3 x 500 GB HDD) and NoteBook. the result is still same.

However, thanks for everything, and i still waiting any comment which can help.

The standard resolution size for MPEG-1 is 320x240. MPEG-2 is 720x540. Why is your resolution a square? Why would you need AVI quality for such a small video? You don't even need MPEG-2 at that size. Not sure what "FLV format" is. I've not used it (and I don't have any problems with OPUS not playing large videos files).

Which hard drive contains your video? My external HDs go into "sleep" mode when not being used, so it takes a moment for them to "wake up" when I need something from them...

The US standard for TV is not PAL. That's a European standard. I don't believe you want PAL for use on a computer. Try making your video an MPEG-1 using the US standard.

If you create an HTML page and then play the FLV file through the Browser object, and assuming your audience has a version of the Flash plug-in that can handle it, then you should be able to play FLVs in Opus.

Fred - FYI

Flash Video (FLV) is a proprietary file format used to deliver video over the Internet using Adobe Flash Player (formerly known as Macromedia Flash Player) version 6, 7, 8, or 9. Flash Video content may also be embedded within SWF files. Notable users of the Flash Video format include YouTube, Google Video, Reuters.com, Yahoo! Video and MySpace.

Flash Video is viewable on most operating systems, via the widely available Adobe Flash Player and web browser plugin, or one of several third-party programs such as MPlayer, VLC media player, or any player which uses DirectShow filters (such as Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player, and Windows Media Center) when the ffdshow filter is installed.

---------------

I've successfully used some small FLV files. I won't venture an opinion other than it worked OK, no better nor worse than other video formats.

try .wmv file (windows media video). this format is as good as mpeg2 even for less bitrate.
Since my problem with mpeg2, i use this codec more and more.
I use premiere pro to convert my video in wmv

Dear,

Demofred :

Thanks for your reply, I choose PAL, Because my footage is taken in PAL Mode. I Choose square format in my composition, because i need to put the video inside the picture (Please open the attachment LV02.jpg). FYI : i put all my footage in the internal HDD.

Bwpatric :

Thanks FYI, Now I'm creating the standalone publication.

Benoit :

Yes, I've created "wmv" with the size 320 x 320 the result is good when playing in Windows Media Player. But Hang when I Import to Opus V6.

Sentosa :

Have you ever use FLV video format in Opus V6 and publish in Standalone ? I Mean only 1 single file below or above 2 GB ! This is my REAL problem, "Can I Create Stand Alone Projects w/ size bigger than 2 GB ?"

I Still waiting the comment that really can help !

Thanks

Avid

Your last response to me made me check into my archives. This is what I found:

1. I last attempted to use .flv files a couple of years ago -- that's why I needed to refresh my memory. I rarely use video, so it's not something I keep at the forefront of my memory, and unlike others in this group, I like to keep my needs simple.

2. The flv format (like several other graphic or video formats) is not supported by Opus.

3. To give me flexibility in my choice of formats, I have installed appropriate file conversion software that lets me convert unsupported files to a format that is supported by Opus.

4. As you are no doubt aware, using and converting any format, particularly video formats, can be tricky because of the variety of codecs which might have been used to encode the file. For that reason I ensure that I have a lot of different codes installed on my computer. The only requirement is that the codec costs me nothing. :D

5. I currently use a package called WM Converter which is available from
http://www.wmrecorderpro.com. It is free -- my favourite price!

Today, I took a largish flv file (57MB) and tried to convert it to MPG, but that failed. Next I tried to convert the file to AVI and this worked perfectly. But bear in mind that I might have different codecs to what you have on your system.

WM Converter can convert both ways between several formats.

It might be worth your while downloading a copy and experimenting.

Hope this helps

i am not sure that i really understand you.
Is your video file 2GB alone ?? (approx half an hour in very good mpeg2)

If it is the case and if you have embedded it in the exe, make sure that your computer have enough ram... (i think that opus have to load it entirely in the ram before playing it)
