What better way to celebrate the festive holidays than a game of 'Beat the Pea'? Please note: this game requires the iO-plugin to be installed.

Kind regards,

Hi
I have been trying out Firefox as it seems to be gaining popularity.

When I load your game page Firefox says a plugin is needed, but then cannot find the plugin...

is this something your script should address or is it a failing of Firefox?
cheers
Mac

Firefox is currently very much a "work in progress" - it's very good (I use it all the time) but it has some limitations. The Plug-in Finder Service only works for the "big three" plugins - Flash, Shockwave and Acrobat. Until the service is finished and opened up to all developers you must manually install the iO plug-in.
The stand alone installer can be found here: http://www.digitalworkshop.com/plugin/index.shtml

Hello Robin,

Is the Opus file available for this game, as I'd be interested in looking at the code behind it, like the gravity and bounce script, and the shadow script.

Bye,

Joe

Hi,

Thank you for your enquiry.

The Beat The Pea source code is a little too complex to make available as a single file and uses several techniques (such as sending data to PHP scripts, collision detection and gravitational physics) which would lend themselves better to separate tutorials.

I am currently creating a bouncing ball tutorial which will show you how to simulate the acceleration of gravity and realistically bounce an object off the walls of the publication. This should be available in the next couple of days.

I hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries.

Kind regards,

Hi Robin,

Thanks for the update. I look forward to the gravity tutorial, and it would be great if you could also do a PHP tutorial and how to use it with Flex and IO.

Would it be possble to create a series of tutorials of how to build a the entire application?

Joe

Hi Joseph,

Thank you for your reply.

Parts 1 and 2 of the Bouncing Ball tutorial are now available in the Opus Pro Tutorials section and I have provided direct links below for your convenience.

Part 1: viewtopic.php?t=315

Part 2: viewtopic.php?t=321

There will be two more parts to this tutorial; one part will show you how to allow the ball to be thrown around the page and the final part will allow you to add a realistic shadow which moves, scales and fades depending on the ball's position and height. These parts should hopefully be available in the next couple of days.

I am also planning a Post Web Data tutorial which will show you how to send information to a simple PHP script file, although I cannot currently confirm when this will be available.

Many thanks,

The final two parts of the Bouncing Ball tutorials are now available:

Part 3: viewtopic.php?t=345

Part 4: viewtopic.php?t=351

I hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries.

Kind regards,
