Cheers Al,

I've not tested it in IE, so not sure if this is just related to that. I'll have a look first think tmw. I'll also get get it check on a couple of other machine, but from your profile the spec shouldn't be an issue.

The lesson is set to unlimited runs, so you can always take it again.

UPDATE: checked this in IE and if fails in the same place. Ill have a look into why the world's favourite browsers crash a Flash file.

Al,

Have checked the Moodle (LMS) bug tracker database an it seems that this is a known problem for IE and new windows in version 7 with large SCORM files.

It is possilbe to set IE7 to load windows as tabs and this seems to solve the problem and I'll also look at whether the module can be loaded in the same window with naviagtion turned off. The problem with this method is that the lesson is full screen and only those lucky enough to run 22" monitors are going to be able to view the lesson clearly.

It's getting quite late here, so I'll look at this sometime tmw but if you want to retry tonight, then change the IE settings to load all pop ups into tabs.

Hi Al,

Have looked at the settings and there is no way around this - the new tab / window needs to stay but I'm going to need IE7 users to have SCORM access as well.

I'm going to update the Moodle version and see if it works - but this is both a slow process process and risky as the latests moodle builds won't run on the 1&1 servers (SQL issue I think).

Hey Mack could you explain what the problem is with IE7 ? if its because IE7 is being over loaded withresources when you run the SWF , may i suggest just breaking the SWF/Session into multiple pieces . I have had to do that with Captivate on many occansions due to large files .

AM i barking up the wrong tree here Mack

wrong tree :-)

The issue is with the poup window that IE7 creates to display the lesson (SCORM). If you tell IE to load all popups into tabs this seems to solve the problem, but not a great solution I think.

I did try to up grade Moodle (the LMS) but kill the database so it looks like I'm stuck with v1.6 until 1&1 workout what the issue is - not likely to be soon. I've also been looking at ATutor LMS with is a lot more robust than Moodle, but lacks decent SCORM support - yet I've been told.

I'm going to fix Moodle and look at using a work around until one of the better fixes comes along. I know the actual lesson file (the important bit) works but I'd like a functioning LMS to host the lessons.

Anyway, I've a manic night and manic morning but hopefully will have something up and running asap.

Cheers,

Mack

:-) Moodle 1.8 now works with the 1&1 webhost :-)

I'll let you know once I've finished all the config settings, etc and got the trial course back up and running.

Hi Al,

Well this has been an interesting set of problems :-)

As I explained above Moodle 1.8 is up-and-running but this did not resolve the IE7 issue. Diggin deeper, this appears to be a problem with the SCO authoring software and is not specific Moodle.

I have found a work-around but it means publishing two SCO packages - and therefore you'll need to select the IE7 one on the course.

Thanks to Sandyn, I've played with an screen recorder and have found that v5 even includes a rather nifty feature that might be worth the upgrade. It would mean creating SCOs in Plexus (preferable) and thus having greater control over the interface.

Anyway, have a play and let me know what you think.

Mack,

P.S Sorry but you'll have to create a new account - I had to bin the old DB whilst debugging the 1.8 issues.
