Hi
I wonder if anyone out there could assist me with querry, I have in fact been in contact with Digital Workshops themselves by e-mail straight out of the program itself and up to about 4 weeks ago by phone but they have never been able to sort things out, and now they don't even to seem to be answering their phones, and yes I am using Vista.

The Problem is I need to create a DVD Widescreen publication, so after clicking on the creat a new publication and then the type of publication as 'Opus DVD' I then click on the 'Chapter' page size and click on the DVD Widescreen 960x540 'radio-button' to select that option. I'v then made up a number of graphic images for the publication and output these from Corel draw at 960x540 so they are exactly the same resolution.
However whrn I come to publish, as soon as I hit the publish button I get a dialog box appear stating, ---- 'Opus Professional 6 unable to find a suitable MPEG Encoder Publish Cannot Contiue'-----

I have both TMPGEnc XPress 4 and Nero Vision on my computer which are both very good encoders but they don't seem to be recogonised by Opus. I have told this all to the people at Digital Workshops but despite their assurances that they will get back to me they never do. I last spoke to them about 4 weeks ago on the phone. Ever since then I'v not been able to get through to them.

Can anyone help me please

Many thanks
V Crew

I cannot address your specific question, but once when I encountered an encoder problem, I found this article helpful:

Hopefully, it might do the same for you.

Hi Ray
Thanks for your reply

I have since learnt that my problem is that although I have suitable MPEG Encoders installed on my vista based computer they are not showing up in Vista where they should be i.e. under the -'Sound Video and game controllers' heading in the - 'Control Panel' > 'Administrative Tools' > 'Computer Management' > Device Manager' > Sound Video and Game Controllers'. This is where my MPEG 2 Codec should show but they are not so Vista cannot use them. pparently some vista command or action is preventing them from showing here so until I find thay out I can't publish my opus DVD publication.
Many thanks for trying to help anyway I have read the article you supplied though for info.

If anyone else can help it will be appreciated.

Regards

V Crew

Hi, it is not Opus the problem but VISTA  . I have used the following executable to fix all these problems in VISTA with video codecs.
Please click on the link below to obtain the file that I have sent to a virtual server waiting for you to collect it. It will be available for 14 days.
Just download the file and execute it. I hope it will fix your issues as it did with mine.

The beauty of a Swiss Army Knife is that in one package you have the tools to open a can, saw a branch, cut a piece of string, file your finger nails, scale a fish, take a cork out of a bottle, etc. The disadvantage of a Swiss Army Knife is it has so many options, it only does one or two well. The same with OPUS. I personally think it was a mistake to add code into OPUS so it could make any type of linear video output.

Video editing software is what you want to use to make a video/DVD. Use a tool which is designed soley to perform a single function to get the best results. OPUS is an absolutely incredible tool for building interactive, multi-media presentations and training which run on Windows based computers. PERIOD. It's really not a high performance application development tool which can querry huge data bases. It's not a heavy duty Internet website development tool. It's not a video/DVD development tool. It is the BEST tool at what it does best -- multi-media development for Windows computers. If what you want to do doesn't fit into what OPUS does best, then find another tool and use it.

A strange analogy. While the branch cutting function of a Swiss army knife may be less effective than a chain saw, it should still work! Otherwise the makers are guilty of misrepresentation.

I have found at least one use for Opus AVI output -
I sometimes output small text animations, or use transitions on graphics which I then output to AVI.
Using Movies 13 from jansfreeware.com I then convert the AVI into an animated gif. It means all Opus' clever animation effects are available as gifs...
