Is anyone else familiar with the e-voting devices available now? Where say, each pupil in a class gets a handset and selects the right answer to a multiple choice question up on screen.

Now that would be very nice to integrate with Opus, is there a way (or in development) of using the input from devices like this?

Thank you for your enquiry.

It really depends on what input signals are transmitted by the handset. If the buttons on the handset correspond to keys on the standard keyboard, you could simply use Key Press triggers to detect which button has been pressed and run the corresponding action.

Thanks for that Robin, I wondered about trying it that way. Actually I did set up a demo using the keyboard instead to give it a try.

I'm going to be having a chat with their developers about how we might integrate it. I'll let you know how it goes.

They also have a system which can bring the results from the voting sets into an Access database so I suppose I could always try bringing that database into Opus and using it that way.

Should be interesting anyway.

Working in the conference production industry we use a lot of ARUs. They are usually made to work with powerpoint. http://www.iml.co.uk/ is the company we work with.

We haven't approached them with a view to integrating with Opus, but it might be a worthwhile venture. Maybe if there are any others out there that are interested, we could approach them collectively ?

I have produced pubs for clients using this system and they said it works ok since this technology works with powerpoint so all that need to be done is to insert the powerpoint in Opus as usual or like some of my customer prefers, to put a launching button for the powerpoint so in this case it is the Powerpoint software itself who launch. I hope I am not confusing you here..

I don't use Powerpoint but the voting software we use does work quite nicely 'over the top' of Opus as a presentation tool. The particular voting software we're using allows you to attach files to questions, so I've exported individual questions as very small Opus pubs. (Using the AutoNarrate function to create little snippets for language quizzes works well.)

But actually having Opus do something as a result of the input is what I'm aiming for.
