I'm having some difficulty in publishing, and I wonder if anyone can help.
It's a large presentation on using a multidisciplinary approach to teaching and learning for pupils with complex, profound and multiple learning dificulties.
The presentation runs from with Opus but when I try to publish it I get an error:
"Cannot save file:
An attempt was made to move the file pointer before the beginning of the file"

Has anyone seen this before?
Could you give me a pointer as to where to look?

thanks

Richard,

I don't work with large files/videos much and am still learning my way around Opus.

Maybe others can advise how to solve.
Meanwhile check this post, or try searching the forum for some of the keywords you used to describe the problem. Good luck.

Richard --

I've never encountered the error message you posted using any version of OPUS.

How much hard drive space to you have free, and what percentage of your total HD is it? If you are short/low on HD space, and if you haven't done a Defragmentation in awhile, I would expect you'd get that type of a message if you were trying to write a TMP file, which then writes a final Publication EXE file.

Yes thanks for pointing that out -

viewtopic.php?t=2981&highlight=file+pointer

the 2GB limit built into Windows.

I'm having to use AVIs since many of the computers used in education
seem to only run AVIs, so I converted all the MPGs to AVIs, which obviously took me over the limit.
I'll split it up.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Richard Walter

Unless you are dealing with REALLY old computers, MPEG-1 display capability has been possible since at least 1999. I only use MPEG-1 files in their native size format. I believe you will have the best universal play ability if you use MPEG-1 files. You can resize them to make the Video Object up to 50% larger without much picture degradation.

What screen resolution are you using for your AVI files? Here again, I would output those files to a smaller resolution, then stretch them. That should make the file size smaller.

Thanks for that information.
Mpeg 1.
I could change all the videos to Mpegs.
But then,
perhaps another time...

Very useful information though, the different video formats with all their different codecs seems a bit of a minefield.
What plays what on where does cause stress.

If I had got the videos smaller, it would have fitted on one DVD but
I managed to publish the thing on two DVDs so it's away.

I concur with Fred. Interaktiv develop software for various UK educational companies some of whom specify that the products must run under windows 98.

We publish all videos as MPEG1 and everything runs fine on a standard 98 installation without any extra drivers or software.

Regards,

Mack
