Ghost is a waste of space - Use Paragon's Hard disk Manager. Version 5 is old but great and plugs into BartPE.

Tried the deleting node under Vista 64 and it works except that you need to delete under the sysWOW64 branch. I actually did both 32 / 64 nodes just in case. The values in each are identical anyway.

For those having problem with Vista 32 / 64 here's the final breakdown:

Find the branches described above for the 32 / 64 nodes and export them - then delete from the registry.

Install Opus, then 6.1 (this might say that the program didn't install correctly - just ignore it). I also installed Plexus just to check and this was fine also.

Ran Opus and everything worked fine. Loaded IE and some Plexus games and everything worked.

Loaded saved .reg back into the registry.

I guess that this should work with Creator as it should remove the OCX issue.

Hi Mack,

O.K. to get it clear:

I search for the entries in my Registry and edit/delete them.

But what do you mean with:

"except that you need to delete under the sysWOW64 branch"

Have i to delete anything else there or search for entries on other points in my Registry?

Michael

Hi Michael,

I'm back in 32bit mode so I can't check the exact node but all 32bit software running under 64bit has registry calls made to sysWOW64 node - I think it was as follows:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
SOFTWARE\
sysWOW64\
Microsoft\
Windows\
CurrentVersion\
Explorer\
VolumeCaches\
Downloaded Program Files

but that node might have been in a slightly different place - but it's not to hard to find as is definitely under the local machine branch. As I said, I also delete the 32bit which on a 64bit machine is in the default place (as I listed in the other post).

Hi Michael,

This is bonkers!!!

From what I can tell that message is caused by a missing or invalid key that is created during the set-up routine and with Opus is stored in the Registration node under Local Machine / Digital Workshop.

It's seems unique to the actual set-up and even re - imaging a drive invalidates it and thus there is no apparent way around this. If it doesn't create it during the install - it simply won't run.

My first guess would have been that this is a 64bit issue but Opus works where Creator fails. If I owned Creator I could probably run a registry trace and work out what was failing but using the evaluation edition this is not possible - sorry :-(

You could check that the Registration key is the problem - I think it will be under

Local Machine\
Software\
sysWOW64\
Digital Workshop\
Registration\

You should see a DWORD entry. If you have a sub-node called evaluation - I think this is for the demo version of Creator.

I think there should normally only be one. I have two because the system has been restored from image and thus Opus re-installed.

Perhaps there are other keys that cause this problem also. When I get a chance I'll re run the trace on Opus and see whether there were other noticeable keys.

If you don't get it solved by the weekend, drop me an email and I'll have an another look at it.

Mack

Brilliant news.

Can you post the solution as it will help others with the same problem?
