Any one using ths? I have been trying it out for the past couple of days and I really like it. Minimalist, built-in spell checking, very fast fast and as far as I can determine OPUS performs without a hitch and does not crash in the way IE7 does.

A few rendering issues, but I am sure that they will be ironed out.

It's minimalist until they start adding new features, and they will.
Firefox is getting slower and more bloated with each build, so I don't think Google Chrome will be any different.
It also tracks your web browsing -- have a look at the EULA.

Nope -- the last thing I (and most web developers) need is the browser market divided up between IE, Firefox and Chrome.
Web sites are hard enough to get right with CSS already
Not to mention Flash, Shockwave plugin installation ....

I wouldn't bet against Google Chrome becoming the favoured browser of many - just look at the dominance of their search engine. Flash is built into Google Chrome and I have yet to come across a site that it baulks at - does a great job of YouTube and the BBC's iPlayer and copes with Opus online publications without crashing ( that's one of the bits I particulalrly like). The browser market is already divided: Opera, Safari, Konqueror, Galeon, Camino and many others - OK not a large share of the market but still used by many.

As a percentage, virtually nobody uses these browsers.
Chrome could take 30% or more in a couple of years with Google behind it.
Chrome is not just a browser, it's being positioned as an application delivery system.

Stats from one of my sites for this year:

IE - 59%
Mozilla - 19%
Safari - 5%
Opera - 3%
Others - 14% (OK Camino was just 0.1%)


This from nearly 10000 unique visits.

It will be interesting to see what Chrome show in the next 6 months.

Stats are very site dependent -- the more techy the site, the lower that IE rates.
One of my wife's sites runs at 85% IE, about 15% Mozilla/Safari.

Except that according to the EULA of Chrome, by posting anything to the web through Chrome entitles google to basically use that material in anyway it sees fit.

"... you give google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free and non-exclusive licence to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content that you submit..."

What business in their right mind is going to simply hand over control of their hard work to google?

This has already been done by Microsoft. Users of Hotmail or MSN Messenger agreed to a similarly worded EULA:

and by other google applications - doesn't make it right though and it seems the guys & gals at google have realised this as the clause has now been removed.

Yes, I'm already a big fan of Chrome: after having it on a test pc for a couple of days, I've now got it running on 6 pcs, both XP and Vista.

It's much faster than IE, and hasn't yet crashed - a big step forward for us!

It also works well with Google Apps, http://www.google.com/a/ which we've run our business on for the last nine months. This is also worth a look for the forward thinking.

Google Apps means we've been able to run more of our business online, and therefore move away from being studio based - we spent three weeks in the South of France this summer, on an island on the Rhone (by Avignon) with a 3G card, and were able to work whenever we wanted.

Clients got their script revisions, I kept an eye on the spreadsheet, and business enquiries were dealt with promptly .... while I sat by the pool with an Expresso.

(So we've arranged to do the same test from Paris next month!)

Importantly, we've been able to stop using Office (which I loathe), and replace it with Google Docs, which means we can work on a single collaborative doc with our clients (90% of which have been happy to join in) rather than endless emailed versions of a script where there's always an update missed.

when I look at homepage www.macsnapper.com in Chrome the little bugs (flash from flex) seize up with mouse movement.
In IE and Firefox they are quite happy...?
I downloaded Chrome 10 minutes ago so don't have an informed opinion.
maybe it's just early days, I have great regard for the brains behind Google.
