 Post subject: Autorun files -- has anyone come across this?
PostPosted: January 21st, 2005, 1:58 am
Opus Pro 04.30. Windows 2000 Pro SP4

As far as I can recall, I have not had a problem with using the autorun files that can be created as part of the publishing or distribution processes.

Recently I applied the same techniques with small pubs.

I produced autorun files in both publishing and distribution, and burned them to CDs. Both my CD drives are set to us autorun, but not one of the many CDs I burned would auto start.

Is this perhaps an issue with 04?

Hi,

Thank you for your enquiry.

Please try viewing the contents of one of the problem autorun.inf files in Notepad. You should see something similar to the following:

Code:
[autorun]
open=publication.exe
icon=publication.exe

where publication.exe is the name of your published executable.

Please first ensure that the filename shown on the 'open=' line exactly matches the publication file which accompanies it on the CD-ROM. If these do not match, you have most likely published two projects to the same folder and accidentally burned the wrong autorun.inf file to the CD.

If the names do match, does the filename contain any special characters, such as apostrophes, hyphens or full-stops (other than the one before the file extension)? The autorun.inf file uses DOS commands to launch the executable and these can encounter problems with special characters. Please rename the publication executable so that the filename only consists of letters with no punctuation, then open the corresponding autorun.inf into Notepad and edit the 'open=' and 'icon=' lines to show the new name of the executable.

Once these files have been edited, please try burning them to a recordable CD and check to see if the disc autoruns on your test machines.

I hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries.

Kind regards,
