Just to add to the confusion, I have Office XP (2002) installed and, like Stephen, can both txt files and Mack's example.

Okay still digging,

but if I was to place a bet, I'd suggest that those with office and for whom it still doesn't work - don't have the version with MS Access?

Any takers?

Mack

Yes, Mack,

My Office 2007 (Pro) has Access.

Mine too. Looks like you may win the bet, Mack.

Okay found it.

There is a registry key created by Access that is some form of licence. I'm no registry expert but the copyright warning provided with the key 'suggests' that posting it here would be a bad idea.

I'll email it to DW and let those in the know take it from here.

I love circles.

Checked the key and its for the Rich Text Control :-) but registering the RichTx32.ocx doesn't create it.

It also explains why Access solves the problem.

Interesting about the Rich Text Control and Access; DW should be able to fix it after your excellent detective work.
