I may have missed something here with the release of version 6.4 but has this video format been obsoleted by Microsoft?

I have a dual screen programme that uses MPEG 1 clips and it runs well under XP. I tested it with Vista and did get half a clip to play after much fiddling, so essentially it would not run. I can't convert the clips as the original codec was on a chip on a circuit board which went to the dump long ago! A re-shoot would cost me about £1000 and times are hard....

All help welcomed here.

Could it simply be that your newer/Vista machine just has current, mainstream codecs? Why not see if you can find/add a software codec?

Not sure if that is the issue... you might check this general faq site:

Use a codec identification utility to see what codec was used.
GSpot is fairly well known and it's free, try that.

You can get problems with MPEG-1 playback in XP as well as Vista. Many computers ship with bonus applications like players, dvd writers, etc. Some of these can overwrite original codecs and cause problems playing various forms of media.
You can see which codecs are installed and who produced them if you start up Windows Media Player, click help >> about >> Technical
support information.

Well the solution was easy! Just disable ActiveX. I now have ancient MPEG1 clips working well with fast start up times as well. I trialed this with Vista on my laptop with a data projector.

Many thanks for the suggestions from all of you.

This is very interesting because in the past I also had problems with some mpg1 videos. Plays in the developing pc but not on some users so let me ask you, what will be the best solution in terms of format and codecs to use when producing videos for Opus Pro 6.4?
Lately I have been producing videos only as wmv because I am guarantee that will play on users pc but these kind of videos are not embeded in Opus at time of rendering therefore, there is a possibility that someone still the video.
Any thoughs on my question?
Cheers
