Hi

I've created an application and a setup exe for it. When some users try to install and run the software, they find that they can only run the application if logged in as an administrator, with administrative rights. Is this an issue anyone else has come across? I can't find any setting in Opus to require admin rights - have I missed something?

Which OS on the clients?

MS Vista seems to me to act like a 'corporate guardian'. Let regular users have their fun, but preserve system integrity by letting only special users install applications or modify files in certain paths. But even WinXP did that, just not in the bullying or bouncer mode that Vista UAC asserts.

When you publish an OpusPro creation as an "Opus Professional" pub, it is a .exe file. In needs to be installed. It will show up in the list of applications under Control Panel >>> Programs and Features (or, Add/Remove Programs for WinXP). It is subject to 'uninstall' process as well.

Hi

The client who had the problem was using XP with service pack 3. I've created a number of programs with setups, and have only recently encountered this problem. Are there any settings to ensure I don't have this problem again?

Unfortunately, to execute any.exe you need admin rights. Obviously your user is under a network and he is just a user without admin rights. Opus can't control that since is by default, a prerogative from the network administrator.

I suggest to include in your CD containing the pub a message advising people that they need admin access to run your pub. I hope this helps.

Hi

I undersatnd fully that the user needs administrative rights to INSTALL the software. However, once it is installed, they are only able to RUN the software when logged in as an administrator, not when they are logged in as a normal user. This is what is causing the problem, that a user can't run software that has already been installed.

As most users on a network are (quite correctly) not given full administrative rights, they need to be able to run the program (once it is installed) as a normal user.

This is what my current program will not enable some users to do. The software will not run for normal users, only for administrators.

As users of any network can run an exe file (eg winword.exe) to run any installed program, once the software is installed, then the software SHOULD be able to be run by any users, not just administrators. However, Opus has somehow created this software with a requirement for access rights for some users, and I need advice as to what I might have done within Opus to cause such an event, so that I can stop having this problem in the future.
