Hi

Am developing a product whereby users can select a folder for where they want data saved. I use the Directory Browse option for users to select a folder. I'm having problems with some users pressing CANCEL instead of selecting a folder. This causes all files to be saved into a temporary file, but when they re-load the program, the temp files can't be found.

I'm trying to write a check to stop this problem. I had a variable (called LOCATION) which I made blank before usinf the Directory Browse option. When I tested this and clicked cancel, there was no text added to this file, but when I checked to see if the file equalled "" (ie blank) it didn't register the file as blank, so something must be added to the file if people click cancel, even though using the Variable View (using script console) it didn't show anything as being added.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

Thanks

check for null (no quotes - it's a keyword)

Hi - thaks for the very quick reply. Without wishing to sound simple, how do I check if it equals null?

I've looked on the options, and am checking for variable LOCATION equal to:

I then have options of text, number or variable. There isn't a variable called null, so do I put null in the text field, or will it look for the actual text null.

I don't know or use any scripting at all, so if this needs to go into some script, I'll either need a complete step by step set of instructions as I've never used scripting at all, or a different way to do the check.

Many thanks

Hi Paul,

Yes, I think you need to use a script to handle null.

Here's a simple example.
