Hi all,
Came across this resource and though could benefit us all, mainly the new and occassional users of opus who find things moving on fast within opus while away on other committments.

The resource is a web conferencing resource, that can allow for upto 20 users at no cost, however, if it can be organised, a forum account (details to be sought on such arrangements) can be created, and any presenter can present an area of opus of interest.

btw, saw this on blenducation.org, where they have launched an online training service for developers of 3D in blender.

I think this is a great idea and am happy to have a go and test whether the technology works.

What sort of topics would people be interested in?

1). Interface and workflow
Areas of interest maybe the resource management, master pages setup/use.
2). Scripting
3). Graphics/Video/Audio resources
4). Distribution (auto-update setups)
5). DLL's
6). Security
7). Drag & Drop

I believe scheduled lessons can be recorded within the same application and that can be uploaded as flv, allowing for others to review this and maybe spawn yet another request for more indepth lessons.

I've started playing with dimdim and it's a good concept.

It works reasonable fast over broadband and includes:

A whiteboard
Voice & Video over IP
Sharing of PPT & PDF
Sharing of browsers - with identical engines
Chat
Screen casting - via plug-in
Various lesson controls.

A few issues include - multi-monitor set-up causes a problem.
Host's screen resolution need to be kept down to ensure accessibility for all - I'd guess 1024x768.
Browsers are better being the same engine.
No inbuilt sharing of other file types such as IMP


It seems that only the host needs a dimdim account as others are simply sent an email with the meeting information and a room key to get in. But registration for a DD account is simple anyway.

I think I'll try this with a problem raised by forum member on using a timer on multiple pages and include a few little extras as well.

It is a great idea for a community in which members come from all over the world whose interest is the development of new applications through this wonderful world that is the multimedia interface.

Are very few sources of information for users of the opus can tell. Every hint and tutorial available is of great importance and help increase our knowledge.

Everything that can be implemented with the objective of exchanging ideas and information can be considered as "good news" and will always be welcome in our daily life.

Certainly, I also want to participate. Although a novice in programming, I have good experience with graphical interface and design. I await news.

I ran an initial test of the software last week between the UK and Oz and it works well but there are some logistics that need to be solved to make it a smooth lesson.

Hopefully, we get a day this week to run the first multi-user test. I'll send an invitation to your your profile email to confirm.

The date for the beta run through is Saturday 21st February at midday (GMT).

The broadcast will be at 1024x768 this end and I would suggest that you need at least that - but higher will be better, but not necessary, for the screen cast.

We will be running Firefox 3.0 which is recommended for live tools but again not necessary.

You WILL need the latest version of flash player installed for your browser of choice.

You will need a broadband connection capable of at least 0.5mb download.

We will test the live whiteboard but the focus will be on the screen cast (for Opus) and txt chat (for support). We may be able to test the VoIP in conjunction with the screen cast.

I will schedule the event in the next couple of days and you should receive an email containing the details. There will be a link to the meeting and I would suggest that this is the best way to join as we had some problem joining from the front page.

You cannot join a meeting that is not already running - therefore if you get an error saying that the meeting does not exist - it probably hasn't begun.

The agenda for the meeting will be a brief play of the DimDim feature set, then looking at using screen casting to solve a problem with Opus follow by a brief discussion on pros & cons of the system.

The Opus element will be an informal look at building a ticker based publication that can run over multiple pages.

Many thanks for sending the e-mail invite to the meeting on the 21st February 2009. Just one query: your original post states that the meeting would take place at midday(GMT), but the invite e-mail from dimdim.com states that the meeting will take place at 11.45PM. It doesn't matter to me as I can attend at either time, but could you just confirm that the meeting is scheduled for 11.45PM (GMT). Many thanks for your help.

Sent an updated email - it should have been AM. Was working out time zones, as we have people from Brazil through to Oz wanting to join in and simply forgot to get the right box.

any chance of a brief summary? i.e. did the technology work? Is it practical to use? How many joined the forum and did they find it useful? Any other info?
The concept seems to have great potential... long range job interviews, conferences etc but only if it is straightforward to use...
