I have made an application that uses a connection to a database, once I have published the files, does the host computer need MS Access installed on their computer, it may seem a very basic question but my brains are fried.

Hi,

It's been a while since I used DB's in Opus, but I don't believe that the app's user would need MS Access installed. But they would need a copy of the MDB DB file and a path scripted to it, so that the app can write to/read from that Access DB file. So, the MDB would need to be included, for example, in the installation folder: (SYSTEM_PUBLICATION_DIR).

Here's the Opus Help Guide>Databases>Getting Started quote:

6. Finally, when the standalone publication is published, you must provide the database along with the publication. For example, if your publication is distributed on a CD-ROM, the CD must contain the database or already be on the users machine or available over a network. If the publication is run from a network, the database must be available on the network.

Let's also see what other forum colleagues say.

HTH

Kind Regards,
