I have created an application using wav files, playing when each page loads

Due to the size of the published exe (which worked fine), I've converted sound files from wav to mp3. However, when I select the mp3 file, nothing is played. Simply changing to the wav version of the file and the file plays fine.

I'm guessing that I've got some setting wrong on the mp3 file. Opus' sound browser does play the mp3, but when I run the page either in preview or compiled, I get no sound.

Any advice would be most appreciated

Hi,

To play an MP3 file you need to create a video object.
Set the Video Type to "On Top"

Good luck,

If I was a betting man, I bet that you've either turned off Enable DirectX Sound or the program has crashed in the past and you used the disable DX sound then.

BTW Opus handles MP3s perfectly well in the normal audio action. The video action really comes into play if you need seeking.

I had a problem with mp3s as well. It turned out to be something to do with the 'ffdshow' codecs. I'm afraid I just switched to wav and moved on, but codecs could be an issue (or a red herring).

Have you thought of trying OGG files?

They are small, like MP3, and I've never had a problem with them

Hi,

I encountered the same problem. Videofiles would show in my fullsized-dvd pubs, but mp3files (inserted as videos with a scrollbar -about a hundred or so :( ) would only play once. After playing that one file, selecting and playing another soundfile would result in the moving pointer flashing from left to right without playing any sound.
It did not happen on all machines, only on rather new computers. The cause must have been an update in Windows xp and Vista, because the pubs ran without a problem earlier on the same machines. The update must have changed the mediaplayer or some codecs.
Installing ffdshow repaired the problem however. It caused me some bad nights and days before I found a solution.

regards,

Ad

Ps. Installing K-lite would cause the soundfiles to be played correctly, but froze the videofiles :(
