Hi guys

Just wondered if any one else is having trouble with running Opus programs in windows 7.

I have a Quiz program which is presented like a powerpoint the main control panel on the laptop screen and the quiz questions on the projector.

This works fine in Xp and Vista however in windows 7 the screens are either reversed or show up on just the main screen.

I have tried swaping default monitors and also tried different computer.

Any Ideas

Thanks Mark

Hi Mark,

Looking at your specification, I'd hazard a guess that it's the graphics card. W7 uses an updated WDDM over Vista and some Nvidia card don't play nice. I had to upgrade my 8600's because they simply wouldn't recognise the second monitor.

However, that said, it's always worth eliminating other possibilities. If you can send me what should be a working version, I'll run it on my W7 machine that uses ATI cards.

Hi Mack

It's a strange one I've just tried it on the same computer but on my Windows 7 64bit harddrive and it worked fine.

So i made up a little test program and the rebooted into windows 32bit and got the same trouble as before with the test program.

Phone DW and they are looking into it

Thanks for the reply

Mark

How many OSs do you have running on the same machine :-?

Hope DW find the solution.

Ditto that! I lost a webcam, external lightscribe, networked printer, graphics card, FTP client, AV program, Sandbox, screen capture software, ISO software and ramdisk. Have managed to upgrade everything but the ramdisk which is pretty much redundant as with 32bit barrier crossed - I can use any generic ramdisk without PAE.

Still wouldn't back - W7x64 is the best upgrade since W2K. My only gripe to date is the lack of physical disk editing but then that's what Bart's for.

What do you have set for the monitors? Opus 7 lets you set the explicit monitor number, so use 1 and 2 rather than default.

You might also try disabling DirectX.

This does sound like the Windows 7 x86 graphics driver is giving Opus the wrong information about the monitors.

I've lost loads of programmes too. No support from Corel unless you spend £100s on their "new" programmes. Why did they buy Ulead!

To revert to the topic. I use 7 and two monitors.I'm not sure what you want to do but if I stretch the programme across two screens it works fine for me. :D

Have you tried resizing screens when you first set up?

Let me know a bit more. I'll see if I can help.

Regards

I have both Opus 7 and many Opus 6/7 produced publications running on my dual screen Windows 7 system.

I have Windows 7 (32-bit) on Dell Inspiron 1520 Laptop (4GB RAM, Core 2 T7250 - 2.0GHz, Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS) running at 1440x900 hooked up with the excellent Dell 23" running at 2048 x 1152. So have a lot of screen space.

I am using my Vista Nvidia drives from Dell that were designed for Windows Vista, as newer drives from Nvidia don't work correctly with my dual screen setup. The new drivers don't display full 32-bit color on second monitor.

Jeez-louise!

With all these issues using Windows 7 - I find myself in a rather difficult position.

On more and more occasions now, I have clients asking me if my projects comply with the windows 7 standard.
This is difficult to answer because of 2 factors:
1: I dont use Windows 7 to develop my projcts - instead I use Windows XP Pro (SP3 ) and find it VERY stable, - especially when using multiple screen applications, ( I currently run 4 x26 inch Benq Displays ) in combination with 2x Nvidia 9800 GT cards and they dont miss a beat.

The second issue is the cost of up-grading.
There is no ( up-grade ) from XP to Windows 7 as such, - and this costs a fortune in this country because its a fresh install situation - THEN theres the up-grade of a lot of hardware devices that Windows 7 has issues with.

For my money, Ill stay right here with a platform I know is rock solid till I can both afford to up-grade hardware AND software...and that includes Opus. 7.

Personally, I have to say that I think both Microsoft & Digital Workshop have pulled a blinder with their version 7s. Both applications are solid, modern and highly productive and probably two of the best upgrades you can spend money on.

I won't say that everything is perfect - Windows needs to look at Linux for some start menu inspiration and Opus needs (well Interaktiv does :-)) dynamic host object creation but then if everything was great we'd all have to start moaning about else - where to start...

While I am not using Opus much at the moment, I purchased the v7 upgrade for these reasons:

1) I want to contribute something towards the company that makes it.
2) It helps to ensure that the product is still around in the future...

My 2c.

Paul

PS
Opus is a wonderful, well designed product.
I've been using the Objective-C iPhone SDK lately and it's like being back in the dark ages...
