Hi,

I've got a small problem with text in Opus Pro 6 & 7 I'm hoping someone can help me with.

The font I'm using is called Sasoon and sometimes when the publication is previewed and published, tall or low hanging characters like 'f' & 'g' are cut off.

I've checked some of the basics like text frame being big enough for text, kerning and anti-aliasing.

I know this could be a problem with the font itself but I'm just looking for some clarity as I'm pretty new to Opus.

I've added an image attachment to give some idea of what i'm talking about. If you zoom into the 'f' character on screen1 you'll see what I mean by cut-off and on screen2 you can see only the first 'f' is cut-off.

Whats more - these words are variables and when the screen reloads, depending on what part of the letter was cut-off the next time the frame is visible with any word in, you can see what appears to be the remainder of the previous cut-off word.

If need be I'll try to get some more screenshots.

Any help would be great guys.

Thanks in advance.
David

The delights of Sassoon Primary.

I'm not sure whether this is an Opus issue as well, but I think the metrics of the Sassoon Font Family where designed to allow the fonts to fit together more naturally - hence their educational foundations. You see it a lot in handwriting programs for schools.

I don't know why some programs, such as MS Word, can handle this but Opus doesn't appear to and I don't think that altering the kerning will work as this for the space between characters and you need to adjust the initial letter's white space.

I think it occurs because each letter is treated as a block but with this font, the descender on the f extends into the previous block due to the negative value set for the white space before the character except, of course at the start of 'sentence' there is no previous block and thus the character is truncated. It would be interesting to know why this doesn't happen in some other programs.

I don't know of anyway to fix it in Opus, although those who use Opus' text handling might. However, you can edit the font and either adjust the white space or create an empty place holder character that can be entered before the start of the letter sequence to create an empty block that the descender extends into.

See example.

Thanks for your help

I'm looking into editing the fonts or simply replacing it with a similar looking font type.
