Does anyone know how to add subtitles in a video loaded in opus, so you can show them or hide them by clicking a botton?
Thanks

One way to add subtitles over a video would be to create an Initially Hidden MultiFrame Object over your Video Object, then insert Text Objects in separate Frames within the MultiFrame. You'll need to create a Timeline to advance the MultiFrame Frames, and a Button Object to make your MultiFrame visible. You will also have to start the Timeline when you start the Video Object. To keep this "simple" I would make the subtitles ON option mandatory BEFORE you start the video.

Yes, I already know the next thing you want is to be able to stop/start the video and keep the subtitles in synch. That's much more complicated. Since you didn't post any Profile information, I'm going to guess you are a "newbie" with no experience with OPUS Scripting. Forgive me if I'm wrong.

If you are new to OPUS, just don't have "Stopping or Pausing a Video Object" as an option and your subtitles will be in synch. Otherwise this will be a complex option for your Publication. Even with suggestions from this Forum, I think this is beyond the capability of a brand new OPUS user.

Fred's right. Scripting would open up a few possibilities.

But you could achieve some results with one, or two, Listbox objects... and do this mostly without scripting.
Listbox can be very wide, and just use that object to enter subtitle text. You can have a separate object to display the subtitles -- use a standard Text object. Then you 'Insert Variable' into the Text object. Later, you will have that variable pick up each line of the Listbox in succession. (easy to do in scripting, but a bit involved to use standard actions...)

And to your basic question 'show/hide subtitles' with a button - yes. Create a button, and add action to do the Show. Create another button to do the Hide. (there are ways to combine to only one button)

Depending on the video properties, you can simply have two videos playing simultaneously - one with subtitles and one without or slightly more advanced have the subtitle video with a transparent background and use overlay.

I assume Opus doesn't support SRT without me writing code to parse the data and play at time intervals.

Looking for an option to show multiple language subtitles for a video and due to space I cannot have multiple videos, need just one video and multiple subtitles txt file.

Thanks, Luke

No. SRT is not supported.

But what your suggesting is perfectly feasible. We built a video time sync application years ago - that displayed supporting data as the video was navigated.

You also don't say what type of project, as HTML5 would offer a much easier solution by using a custom player with subtitle support.
