I'm putting together an e-book which uses the 'insert from file' option to read the contents of an rtf file. This file gives the user an indication of the contents of each chapter. The publication, and all subsequent resources are on CD. Is there any way on ensuring that the 'insert from file' will always default to the users CD drive, no matter what the path letter is for that machine? I usually use the 'SYSTEM_CD_DRIVE' while scripting, but cannot see how this is possible when using the 'insert from file' option.

Many thanks in advance.

M,

I've read your question several times and thought someone else might understand and answer. Sorry to say, I am not clear on exactly what you are attempting:
Quote:

How/where are you setting this up? What type of object are you using to receive the file contents?

As far as I know, "insert from file" is something you use within the Opus editor, and it does not bring in text contents dynamically from an external file when the Pub is actually running.

Also, it always helps to know:
what version of Opus you are using.
your PC/System information (and target PCs/OS you intend to have the Pub run on -- if different).
what TYPE of Publication you are creating (full Opus Professional, Flex, etc)

I think you are referring to inserting text into a text object, where you right click on the object and use the 'Insert from File' option?

Why not use 'insert variable' but prelaod the variable using a script which uses 'SYSTEM_CD_DRIVE' ??

Would that do what you want?

Many thanks  That's exactly what I was looking for.

Lar_123 You're quite right, I was looking for a dynamic way of getting the information into the published project from a CD, and the "insert from file" can only be used within the editor. Many thanks for pointing this out to me.
