Opus: Opus Pro 9
OS: Win 10/64
Hi,

I try to update from 7.04 to 7.05 with the newest service pack.

Unfortunately the installation package seems not to work on my machine. Everytime I try to install I get the following error message:

The file 'C:\Windows\System32\MSVCRT.DLL' could not be opened.
Please check that you disk is not full and that you have
access to the destination directory.

The only option is to click on the OK button what finishes the installation without installing anything.

This happens on my Windows 7/32 machine with all the latest updates installed.

Since I knew that the msvcrt.dll is always in use by some processes I wonder what the 7.05 installation package tries to do with that dll.
Normally it's not possible to simply overwrite this dll with an installation program.

Help is very appreciated.

Thanks

T.

You may as well email DW support. If I recall back at v6.x, some of these types of problems required DW to send a link to another install/download.

You could also try searching this forum. For example...

... since the solution described in that topic was one I found out by myself I have of course tried this trick at first.
Unfortunately the mentioned dll is not so easy to trick on W7. On my machine it is blocked by the OS and cannot be unblocked even by a special unblocker tool.

I have already contacted DW Support and get a positive answer. So we can mark this thread as solved.

Thanks though for your help.

T.

PS. Since I try to improve my english. Would it be right to write "Thank you all the same"? Or is this a unfriendly or rude kind of answer?

That would be English with an 'E' :-)

Thank you all the same basically means thank you, but no thank. It's the kind of phase I'd use when I get a cold call from an insurance company trying to sell me something. In context, it's a polite way of refusing an offer. Hope that helps.

Being in the U.S., my own interpretation is 'Thank you' for trying... what you offered did not suit me, ...did not work, etc. So 'thanks for the attempt'. Your English is quite fine and I appreciate your effort to tune it.

Glad you found a solution.

Thanks for your help and advice :-)

In addition I have finally found out the original reason for the problems with the installation.

I use Total Commander as a file manager. Everytime the installation is started via Total Commander the error occurs.
When started via WinExplorer the installation works with no problem.

Since I use Total Commander for years without problems, I do not know why this happens but maybe it helps someone who has similar problems.

T. :)
