Hello, hope someone can help.

I've just received my copy of Opus Pro 04 XE 4.50.

I already had Ops 2.81 installed and running on my Windows Me (fully updated), Pentium III 700MHz with 384MB ram.

I installed XE and when I click on Help/About Opus Professional 01 XE, I get the following error messages:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program C:\Program Files\Opus Pro XE\Opus.exe
abnormal program termination

Then:

Opus has caused an error in DWFC42.DLL

Can anybody help?

Thanks, Melanie

Further investigation...

Tried to create publicaton, chapters, pages (I'm already familiar with Opus 2.81) but they disappear (after being clicked on a couple of times) in the organizer. The objects under the Insert Menu and on the Tools toolbar are disabled and I couldn't add any objects to the page.

"Exception Unkown" error dialog on attemping to preview.

I uninstalled Opus Pro XE 4.50 and removed all system startups so that Norton Antivirus 2005 wasn't running. (When I installed last time Norton was running in the systray with AutoProtect disabled).

I reinstalled Opus Pro XE 4.50. Same as the first time round I get an error in Kernel32.dll when trying to run from Browser.exe, but the main program file opus_pro_04_xe.exe runs ok. I choose "all users" on install.

I reboot after install.

On starting up XE I get following message:

Publication c:\windows\temp\ilm2215.tmp could not be loaded.

I continue. This time when I try to create a new publication, chapter, pages, they don't appear in the organizer at all. I attempt to import a imp file from a previous project in Opus 2.81, it asks if I want to back up and I get a Kernel32.dll error which won't go away, and I have to shutdown the machine.

On reboot - start up XE - the publications, chapters and pages that I created in the last paragraph suddenly show up in the organizer. Still can't add any objects (all disabled) and preview gives me the Exception Unknown error.

Opus 2.81 appears to be still working fine.

I'm assuming that 4.50 is already updated to SR4?

Please could DW give me some help?

Thanks

Melanie

Resolved by phone.

The problem seems to have been caused by problematic graphics card drivers (Graphics card GeForce 2).
The drivers on the users machine very causing problems with Direct X.
New drivers and old drivers did not solve the problem. In the end third party Omega drivers fixed the problem with the graphics card for both Direct X and Opus.

Just thought I'd add this in case anyone else finds this post and has a similar problem.

The omega drivers did appear to work, but I lost the double-click to open folder (had to right-click and explore) and also "new" option to create new folder!!!!!!

Went to even older nvidia drivers. The last ones that work for my Geforce Ti4200 are 53.04.

The double-click on folders reappeared, but the strange loss of "new" on the right-click and File menu needed a registry edit.

Good luck to others with older graphics cards!
