Maybe not exactly an Opus topic, I'm sorry, but I bet someone here knows...
I'm making an Opus interactive to run on an HP touchscreen. The display space has access to cat 5 cabling but the touchscreen will need USB connection to the PC box.
Does this mean I really have to have the box near the screen or is there a way/device to connect the USB feedback to cat 5 and have the box in a different room?
all advice appreciated.

Hi Mac,

Yes, it's possible to use USB over Ethernet. Though you may have to look around for the right product to meet your specific needs. I have a Fritz.box router in my office and it has a USB port that combined with the supplied software allows me to access printers, storage and even my graphics tablet works but this may be overkill for your needs, though I guess something simpler exists.

If you can get a hardware adapter, then this piece of software may connect the two devices...

thanks for replying-
that encouraged me to do a google search on usb extender and I found a product which says it has two 4 port terminals, one at each end and connects multiple usb devices by cat 5 cable.
Now I just have to get our IT folks to confirm that it works on a shared network.
thanks again
Mac

Not a problem Mac.

You also made me wonder whether wireless was possible and it seems that it is...

Looks like a useful piece of kit if you want to avoid using the Ethernet.

Briliant- now I have two potentially useful solutions.
Thanks
