Problems again.
I've gone through the task manager and stopped all the extra rubbish.
I've reinstalled the programme - again!

This is what happens now:
I build my programme in Opus.
I check it and everything works fine.
OK up to now.

I then try publishing.
Several pages process correctly and then I get
"unknown error" messages and "can't find...."

When I go back to the programme the "error" pages have lost their
pictorial content although the verbal content and colours etc are still there.

I turn off Opus - start again - load my files and everything works properly again.

I done virus checks and can't find any thing.

Anyone else had this?

Cheers

Did you ever think of posting in the Basic or Advanced section of this Forum? Just a suggestion. Most of our contributors will NOT respond or answer questions placed in the Lounge section. The Lounge is for casual conversation among Opus users. It is NOT where you ask technical questions.

K,
What is your Pub TYPE?

I suggest you try using the logging feature of Opus (an option during publishing process). That may help you pinpoint the issue and give us something more specific to think on.

Some systems questions:
Have you run Windows OS updates lately, or since you originally succeeded with that Pub? Reason I ask is that sometimes drivers, codecs, or other things get changed. Sometimes an App/Program needs to be reinstalled. (Even though you said you reinstalled Opus, there may have been registry keys remaining -- and a 'real clean' install can be had by deleting those registry entries. May not be necessary to do... read on.)

Have you migrated from one system to another? If so, which systems?
Have you moved PC/Windows directories around -- changing location of resources?

By any chance did you get a prompt when opening that Pub file -- "...missing resources." ?
You may be able to use Opus' built-in Resource Manager. Missing or unavailable "resources" will have a red, or yellow, icon to flag these. (I would first do a Save As for the Pub, then proceed to try various fixes.) Sometimes, changing the Path to the resources in the RM will fix it. Another convenient method there is to "rebuild resources" (or similarly worded feature).

BTW, I am assuming you haven't had your image files, 'pictorial content', out on a Flash drive... that has since been removed.

No, I have not experienced that. I am lost. I do not have enough to go on to think about other possible causes.

I think you'll have to look closely at where the source files are for your images, etc. You can examine Properties of an Image Object and make sure that that file exists in the location that Object is expecting.

There are other things that can break an Opus Pub. Duplicating object names, having an object use the same name as a variable, etc etc. Sometimes a Page, or a Pub, just gets corrupted... but I think that would show up at time of Preview.

Hi Larry

I'm still fighting it but getting there.

Most of your advice I had already done but many thanks anyway.

It seems my Serif software is not producing picture files which Opus likes.

It's the only picture programme I've found which will thicken staves on a music
print out from Sibelius. Otherwise when I scroll in Opus some of the lines go missing.

I've now got over three hours music on the file you helped me with.

You can see the programme in operation here: (trombone)

Follow the links to watch the players.
I'm on the keyboard and controlling all the other sounds.

Nice to hear from you again. I hope you've managed your project.

Kind regards

Mike,

Nice website. If I'm remembering right, it seems you've simplified it quite a lot.

The standard Opus Help File lists what media file types are supported. Maybe you could batch convert and still retain good resolution... in a .png for example. Also, you can play around with bilinear sample option ON or OFF. It is set in Image Object's properties, but I think there is a global preference setting as well for the Opus app. I think most folks make sure it is OFF, to avoid extra CPU cycles during action to show or display the image.

It became a victim of scope-creep. I wanted to do so much, thus had to learn so much (e.g. SQLite DB), then began thinking Opus wasn't the program to use while authoring content. But I definitely wanted the interaction part of it. I started looking at CMS tools. That became a real time-sink given the many many open-source apps and variants out there. Got side-tracked, handling family matters this last while. Am just trying to stay with it enough to keep my skills fresh. Thanks for asking. I hope to ramp up a bit next summer.

So have you pin-pointed your publishing errors?

Hi Larry

I've had a phaff on (if that's how you spell it!

I produce .bmp .png .jpg in Sibelius; try them all; if they don't work
I put them into Serif DrawPlus X5 and save again. This seems to work.
I think Serif's Photoplus is saving the files wrongly.

Anyway I've now got an Opus programme that works properly
( after I've got rid of the "Go to page" errors  )

I prepare the music for one instrument - e.g. trumpet and then
copy it for others changing the music files. So.............
I miss a "go to" and suddenly the alto sax has to read trumpet.

I'll get it right eventually  - must be done by Tuesday November 1st
for the rehearsal for the concert here:

http://www.ents24.com/web/event/Concert ... 49884.html

I hope you complete yours soon.

Kind regards
