Hi All,

I am publishing a large publication with a Data file for each Page, as I will be using the update feature to update pages in the future.

Problem is one of the pages is 25MB, and when the user clicks to that page it takes about 5 seconds to load, so it's slow. The page contains a slide show that has about 200 photos. Preloading the slideshow images doesn't improve load time, actually appears to slow it down. I really need to preload the page.

Also tried compressed publication and uncompressed publication, both take exactly 4.7 seconds to display the page.

Any recommendations to preload the page so it doesn't do it so slowly. The publication is being loaded from the hard drive, so not a CD issue.

Thanks.

I'd start by checking a publication with just the slide show. I checked with a 200mb datafile and it loaded the slide show instantly.

Thanks Mack,

I explored the problem further this morning and seems to be something else slowing the load time. Will do some more test and post results here when I figure out what's slowing it down.

This problem has nothing to do with the slideshow. I was wrong on that, it was related to text.

Using the font Calibri caused the slow down. It took a while to single this out as the problem, as it didn't cross my mind that the font could be an issue. I have played around with different publishing settings, embedding the font, etc. But that didn't improve the load time.

So solution is not to use Calibri font in a publication.

Attached file is a simple publication showing the load delay with a page with the font used.

Really? I would never have suspected a MS bundled font could cause that kind of problem. Why would this be?

Good catch! Any other fonts to watch-out for I wonder.

Not sure this was the first time I have ever experienced such an issue, I tried a few different options in the publish settings but couldn't get it to speed up. I'll send it to DW and see if they can check what the slow down is.

A simple solution is to use the Calibri font on the starting page and it will load from the start and no delay later on.

It would appear to be the magic six from the MS ClearType pack developed for Vista - and a google suggests Opus is not alone.

Kudos for tracking it down to the font!
