Hi,

Elsewhere in the same quiz that i am creating I am trying to create a slider that scrolls through 10 images. They are all the same size and stacked on top of each other.

I have created a 'bar' as a vector, with another vector on top of it as a slider. Then I put a frame round the slider to create a boundary, and inserted the slider vector into it so that it is the parent. In the drag and drop properties I ensured that the slider would only stay inside the parent and this works perfectly, I can slide it up and down smoothly and in just 2 dimensions.

I then created 10 separate hotspots and spaced them evenly along the track. I have only activated the first 2 so far, but I can't get them working at all. I have enabled each of these 2 hotspots to accept the dropped slider vector, and checked 'objects can be dragged off' and unchecked 'objects must fit'.

Next I created 2 actions for each of the hotspots, one to show the relevant image when the slider vector is dropped on it, and one to hide the image when the slider is dragged off.

The Show Image bit just isn't working, and I have no idea why.

Any ideas?

Many thanks

RB

Edit, worried this didn't make much sense so I've created a file to show what I've done.

RB,
Won't have time today to examine your pilot Pub.

My personal choice for something like this is to use a Multiframe object. (There are other ways also)

But it would go something like this:
1. Put each one of your Image objects into Frame within a Multiframe.

2. You can keep your slider and hotspots. But you only need one Action on each hotspot: Go To Frame _number_ --- these are found under the set of actions in Multiframe.
(of course the Trigger is "when object dropped" on the hotspot)

Hi Lar,

Thanks for helping, I'll give this a go and see if I get more luck :)

Hi Lar,

I tried that, but still no luck. I'm clearly missing something very obvious, as the dropping just isn't registering where it should, but I just can't work it out.

I've tried using normal frames as drop zones instead of hotspots, but no luck with that either.

Just back today. I'll take a look at it tomorrow hopefully.

[lar EDIT:] One thing when setting up some Triggers and Actions, ...mainly for actions, make sure you click a Checkbox over on the right side of the actions dialogue to indicate which object the action applies to. (not relevant for all the various Actions) I am talking about say, GotoFrame #4. You have to manually check the box for the parent Multiframe object, AND ALSO select the Frame numbe (lower center or lower left of the actions setup dialog).

Try this.

I did not take care to constrain the draggable Vector to stay within the Frame, i.e. act as a Slider, but it works to show the simplicity of the Actions --- to forward or reverse to a particular Frame (at least for a limited number of items).

BTW, the time to create this sample Pub in OpusPro ---- approx. 10-12 minutes. (Well, actually less :) ) Yeah! DW.

If you have trouble adapting this, just pay attention in the Actions set-up area to Click (select) the Multiframe, and also to select which number frame you want to advance to. To keep it simple, I used native Opus vector objects, but you can swap these out with your own Image Objects.

Thanks Lar,

I'm off out now, but will have a look when I get back. Thank you so much for taking time out on a Sunday to do this for me :)

RB,

You sure are courteous about acknowledging where you are in the process. Thanks on behalf of all of the Opus community.

Here's an extra Hint on modifying and progressing Pub development.

1. Take a look at the 'Quickbuild' options and features. Maybe not directly applicable here, but play with them sometime. Very useful for creating ONE object and then duplicating several copies of it, or copying its "properties" and "attributes" onto other objects. Super time saver.

2. Did you know that you can go into that Hotspot's Action list and COPY the whole set of actions, including the Trigger, and then Pasting those to another object (most likely you would 'tweak' those actions later).

e.g., the way I created the landing zones so fast.... create the first Vector and its Drag/Drop attributes plus its action (of Go To Specific Frame), and then I just Duplicated the vector object (it has all the actions etc duplicated). But I could also take Vector_A and Copy its MouseClick (or Dropped) Trigger along with underlying Actions.... and Paste that onto another object. From there, it is a simple matter of MODIFYING the Action to go to a different Frame (in your specific case here).

RB,

There is a similar approach, but even much simpler to construct.

Instead of using many frames within a Multiframe, just use a Slideshow object. It has a similar Action available for it -- which is a Go To Slide number. ( I do not use the slideshow feature and almost forgot its advantages here. )

Thanks again Lar,

I've not used the slide show before, but I think you're right it should work.

Your small example is just the sort of thing I want, many thanks, though I'm still struggling to find what I did wrong with mine, they look similar. Still that won't matter if I can get the slideshow working.

Once again thank you for your time.

RB

Belongs in the advance section - but for those that like to reuse their wheels:

If you change the code in SF Frame > Actions > Script on the effects slider publication:

//calculate percentage scrolled
Code:
K = Math.floor(t / p * 100)

To this:

//calculate percentage scrolled
Code:
K = Math.floor(t / p * 10)

Then K will be a value from 1 to 10 which you can then use go to frame; set slide number or the set image command with and IF or even CASE.
