Hi,
Does anybody know if it's possible to display the waveform of an audiofile in a publication?

Regards,

Ad

If you mean that Opus has a built-in functionality then no you can't.

You could however, just take a screen shot of the waveform in your favourite editor and display that. If the audio files are dynamic then you can achieve the same thing using SOX Sound eXchange to generate the images.

Hi Mack,
That's not standard in Opus is that I knew but I was wondering if there is another possibility.
I'm working on an audio player where it would be usefull if the waveform would be visable.
SOX Sound eXchange is that a program?

Yes, it's a command line application - the Swiss Army Knife of audio.

http://sox.sourceforge.net/sox.html

That's the help page - just locate the spectrogram option.

Sorry, this won't help you......but Opus does have the ability to display a scrolling waveform for a sound file, but only in edit mode and only in the initial stages of setting up AutoNarrate.
AutoNarrate is where Opus will display text and highlight individual words synchronised to a sound file. It's a really cool feature. Unfortunately for you, the only time you see the scrolling waveform is when you select or edit the audio file. It does not display when it's running, unfortunately.
So near to what you want!!

If you're looking at the waveform style that Opus uses then this might not be your cup of tea as the manual says, it's a spectrogram.

Code:
sox mymusicfile.mp3 -n spectrogram -Y 300 -l -r -o mymusicfile.png

If your using MP3s you'll need the libmad.dll file in the sox folder.

Mack

Have you also looked at using Flash for this?

 I am too dum for this i think...
Almost a year without Opus programing has left its mark.

Jezjones, did you ever use the flash option in an Opus publication? Do you have an example .imp?

Mack, I can not get it going.
Of course it's my fault but keep trying against all odds is not working.

Kind regards,

Ad

Can you not just use an image?

If you can, you could use PHP: http://www.rchu.nl/2011/09/creating-a-w ... -with-php/

or just create the image with a program like Audacity.

I've not used the Flash method (importing) as Opus doesn't seem to work well with them - I would just use Adobe Flash if I was going to.

Thanks for your suggestion.
It's not just one image. I am working on a musicplayer and every mp3 file you open have to show the graphic of that file.
Still trying the SoX option. Not working jet so i can use every help there is.

Kind regards,

Ad

When I get a chance, I'll look at building an example - won't be for a couple of weeks as January is very busy.

Have you got just Sox to work?

Put sox and the DLL above into a folder. Add the MP3 of choice - best with a simple name like mymusicfile.mp3. Then launch Command Prompt (Hold Shift and Right Click on the folder). Enter command given above.

Thanks Mack,
It works although it remains difficult for me to work with scripts.
But the problem is that I am not 100% of my time can be busy with programming so I'm not really good at scripting and always look to find the right solution.
This Message Board is great to solve a lot of problems.
