Hello

I want to make an object slide along a specific line when I click on it and not deviate from that line. I can easily drag the object around the screen, but I want it to be locked to the line and follow the straight path I have put on top of it. How to do that?

Thank you for your reply,Mac.

The thing is that the options presented when looking at the Path possibilities are automatic.
I want the object to remain still until a user clicks on the object and drags it along the line - and not be able to drag the object anywhere else than forth and back along that line.

Opus 8 has a restrict drag to parent option on the drag and drop tab.

Vesperillo you probably get what Mackavi is saying- you can make a long narrow frame to hold the object and you won't be able to drag the object out of it. :)

Hello again

Sorry for the late reply - I've been away for some time.
I'm afraid I can't get it to work. The frame is created - the objects have been placed within the frame - a path has been inserted(not sure if that is really needed, but I'm trying things here).
The procedure isn't that clear to me.
I see the restrict to parent option on the D&D tab, but when I choose the restrict drag to parent object and apply it to the vector I've made to be moved along the line, I get stuck. If an object has to be associated or linked with another in this manner, then where is that option made? Where do I choose what the parent object is?
Nor can I make the frame hold the slide-polygon - I can still move it anywhere on the screen.

You'll want to put the draggable vector inside frame :)

There are different ways of doing this, but I always find a right mouse drag and drop of the object in the navigation tree on the right. It'll display an 'insert into' option when you release the button.

Very simple example attached.

Mack

It all makes sense now :-)
Works just fine when placed within the narrow frame!
Thank you both :D
