Has anyone had any issues with Safari not allowing PDF files being launched from a Flex Pub?

Regards

Pete

Hi Pete

Safari downloads PDF files in HTML 5 publications on my machine.

Have not tested flex. Email me a link and I'll test and report if you like.

This evening I noticed there was no button functionality on my publication using my brother-in-laws Safari on his Ipad 2.

On the other hand, I have good functionality in Safari on my Ipad 3.

Apart from the machine differences, I have the latest IOS whereas he has the previous version. Whether this makes a difference I don't know.

Cheers

Graham

When the flex pub is uploaded to the web - and launched in Safari it will play PDF fine,
But when trying to run from a folder on a local machine - it just freezes???
Works fine in IE, FF and Chrome though!!!

Thoughts?

Regards

Pete

I dont have a Mac that I can test it on - and of course iPads or Android tablets will not play flash.....
SO I have only been able to test on Safari for windows so far.

Regards

Pete

Hi Pete

You might want to read this article dated 14 January 2013

http://www.howtogeek.com/132602/safari-for-windows-is-probably-dead-how-to-migrate-to-another-browser/

How applicable that article is now that we are in June 2013, I'm not sure but maybe the number of Safari for Windows users is declining in light of that.

If you email me a link I can test on Ipad 3 for you.

Cheers

Graham

Hi Graham,

My issue is with people (using Macs) trying to launch a PDF from a Flex pub.
It's been a few years since I "crossed over" and so dont have a mac to test the pub on.
My assumption was that the browser of choice for Mac was still Safari???
Which was why I was using the windows version to test....

But thanks for your comment. Interesting article.

Things would be a LOT easier if Macs and Android (Jelly Bean) hadn't decided to discard Flash....
Lots of disgruntled people out there.... I am one!

Regards
Pete

Agreed!

I think Safari for IOS has been updated, but still no flash.

Flex is flash? Right?

That might explain the PDF issue you have.

Can you link the flex PDF to a html5 pub that has the problematic PDF file?

Ie. go outside your flex pub, get the PDF and then return to your flex pub?

I might have a bit of a play later today and try that.

Don't have a mac but do have an Ipad.

Cheers

Graham

That sounds like Flash security settings getting in the way.

Windows Safari is dead, yes. I wouldn't make any assumptions about how it behaves on a Mac based on what the Windows version does.

Pete

You can try the following test site

http://www.asciimanor.net/flextest/index.html

If it works on your Windows Safari (Doesn't work on my Ipad 3 Safari) you should see a button that links to a html site that has a button where you can download a pdf file.

The flex pub does work in FF using Windows.

The pdf file is here

http://www.asciimanor.net/pdffolder/index.htm

Anyway, if it doesn't work then my idea failed as most do! :)

Cheers

Graham

PS - Dave - the exit button in the html pub does not work.

Hi Graham,

Yes your solution worked, but... is not really a satisfactory solution for my client.
SO I have gone back to the drawing board....
With the apparent demise of Flash across all the platforms - I think it's probably a case of closing the stable door....
Have to say - If we had a stable HTML5 export (AND Android, IOS output) I would be a much happier bunny.

Thanks for your input anyway... as always... much appreciated

Regards

Pete
