Has anyone had any issues with Flex pubs that utilize hotspots????

I have a publication that works flawlessly in preview, but when I publish it and play on a local machine, the hotspots seem to throw a hissy fit on me.

Even on a simple pub (see zip) the hexagon has a hotspot outline only with the line thickness set to a width of 11 (no fill) with a cursor change on mouseover to help the user locate the hotspot - but the hotspot just will not play ball.
You should be able to click on any part of the stroke to action the page forward, but it's so hit and miss...
Any suggestions???

Regards

Pete

Hi Pete

Backing up at the moment so cannot test but

I think you have to fill the hotspot. You can fill with the same colour at the background so it is not visible.

Try it and see.

I'll have a a look in a couple of hours. Windows backup .... grrr

Cheers

Graham

Hi Graham,

Thanks again for your response...
Unfortunately I cannot do that as the hotspot is on top of an image that the viewer needs to see.
As I said, the odd thing is, in the preview, it works flawlessly.

Did you manage to have a look at the draft .imp file? and see what I mean?

It's almost as though the hotspot simply abandons the stroke thickness when published and "breaks up" because you can only select certain areas of the stroke even when moving the mouse across it really slowly.

Certainly got me baffled....

Regards

Pete

Hi Pete

Your image didn't come in the resources folder.

Anyway, got it working - I think.

Hotspot properties - untick ignore transparent area.

Polygon properties - vector fill. Fill the vector with any colour and then set to 100% transparent.

Click Ok and try that and see how it goes?

Cheers

Graham

Hi Graham,

Thanks again for your response, I had already tried that.
The problem that I have is, I dont want to the fill of the hotspot (Whether transparent or not) to be clickable - just the stroke.

Thanks anyway...
Will check again in the morning..
Been a long day

Warm regards

Pete

Hi Pete

I don't understand what you mean by 'the stroke'

All I see on the screen is a red polygon with borders in the middle of the page.

Passing the mouse over the new amended published version creates a hand over on clicking goes to page 2

Passing the mouse over the original sent to Opus version - nothing happens on a mouse click event.

Sorry about your long day - hopefully tomorrow is a lot shorter for you

Graham

Hi Graham,

Sorry that was my pathetic attempt on explaining my problem at the end of a trying day!!

The Hexagon is obviously just a shape representing an image with a border.
On that Image I want the "border" to be the hotspot. - I want just the border to be selectable - not the fill
I also intend to have other hotspots on the image - within that "border"

So my problem remains - in preview the pub works as I would expect.
On PUBLICATION, the hotspot - which is actually the "stroke" of the object set to around 15 is just being ignored, making it hard to click on.

Regards

Pete

Hi Pete

I've had a play for about an hour and I now see what you mean.

The hand appears and disappears in preview mode and actions assigned to the vector work when the hand is there.

Publish and then all you get is a fleeting hand if you are lucky. Impossible to click on.

If I get a chance later today I'll have another go but I have some important things that must be done today, to do. Sorry.

Cheers

Graham

Sorted it, I just used some of the custom hotspot shapes and edited the nodes.... bit long winded but it worked...

Thanks Graham

You're welcome Pete.

I eventually created a custom square shape made out of straight hotspot lines and then joined them together and fooled around with the properties and whatnot. Worked OK in the editor but not after publish.

The node editing did cross my mind as something to try but I simply ran out of time.

The main thing is that you have overcome the problem and is that a sweet feeling? :D

Well done

Graham

1. Draw the shape using a vector - not hotspot.
2. Remove polygon fill.
3. Change / add polygon stroke.
4. Select ignore transparent area - general tab on the vector.
5. Change effect > transparent to 100%.

Thanks Mack.

Works a treat... however, I would have thought that the hotspot tool would behave in the same way?
Makes you wonder why that tool exists?

Thanks again

Pete
