Perhaps it is somewhat cumbersome formulated, but I try to show my question in English.

I have to make an HTML5 scoreboard to display scores. The scores displayed on this site wille be visible for everyone who visits this page.
There should be another page to change values.
Of course I could pass the changes via FTP but it is too cumbersome. To make the changes I want to make a page with an easy interface.

The question is: How can i make an HTML5 page that can upload values that i can see on an other page.
Hope that one of you understands this clumsy English from a dutchman.

It depends on who is using the pages.

If YOU are switching between Page A and Page B on the same site, then you can either use Local / Session Storage to hold the values on your own computer / browser or you can use PHP Session values to hold the values on the server. Both are only really useful for a single user but the latter offers better security.


If YOU are setting the values on Page A but SOMEBODY else is viewing the values on Page B, then you need some form of permanent shared storage. If it's just a few values, then you might consider using PHP to simply read/ write values to a file on the server.

Hi Mack,
The way i like to use it is for real time information about who is riding at a show jumping course.
Often the jury can't exactly see which combination number is ready to start.
I will make an easy to input number and any name online page that the course official can fill in.
The number and name must be displayed on an other webpage so that everybody can see who's
in the ring at that time.

This is one function for my idea but it can be used in a lot of cases.

Hi Ad,

If the page used by the course official is running as part of the same session as the page viewed by the people in the ring - then something simple can be used such as Opus HTML5 cookies or PHP Sessions.

If the page used by the course official is in a different session, different browser, different machine, different user account, etc - then you need server storage - IE a MySQL database or server file read / write.

I am afraid that the second option is the one that I need. How difficult is it to make something like that?
Can it also been done with the "Post Web Data" function?

I haven't got as far as web databases for our YouTube videos yet - but there is an introduction to PHP and slightly off track a CoursePlay video showing the setup that might help with creating a Database and using phpMyAdmin.

I also recommend getting some of the Visual Quick Start Guide books on MySQL and PHP to give you an awareness at least of things you need to consider as well as being useful references.
