We've been approached to produce a multimedia for a touch-screen kiosk.

Can someone explain how this works... would I be programming hotspots on the screen? Or...?

Thank you for your enquiry.

Touching the screen simply equates to a press of the left mouse button, so any object which has a Left Mouse Click or Left Mouse Down trigger applied should respond to a press in its area of the screen and trigger the associated actions.

You can therefore use hotspots, buttons, frames, images and any other object which can have triggers applied to capture this input.

Drag and Drop also works. I can't really think of anything that will work with a mouse and not work on a touch screen.

I'm finishing a touch screen project for a home builder for a big convention where they will have two 3M touch screens running the OPUS program I created.

TIPS:

Use large Buttons so people can easily press them. Touch screens are not always as accurate as a mouse pointer.

You can even use Mouse Overs. I was concerned if this would work, and I tested it. You can slide your finger over a Button and get the same Trigger as a Mouse Over. The touch screens we're using know the difference between Over and Tap (single or double).

On our 3M touch screens you can LOCK the controls on the front of the screen to prevent an unattended user from making "adjustments" to your screen. I'm guessing most other touch screens can also be locked.

You don't need any EXIT or ESCs (unless you WANT the viewer to be able to exit your OPUS program (not likely). You should only have the touch screen available. The keyboard and CPU should be out of reach.

Hope my experience with this fantastic technology helps. We bought two 17" 3M touch screens for $950 USD each (I think that's about 550 pounds +/-). One ONLY has a Serial connection. The other uses a USB connection. Make sure you get what you need. If we weren't short on time, I would have sent the Serial one back. Some laptops now don't even have Serial connections; everything is USB today.
