Craig --

Since I was told 05 might come "out" today (05/05/05) I thought I'd give you a couple of the new highlights:

Slideshow -- Yes, they added my "numbers" on the left side of each image, so you can easily find/move them up/down (Thanks DW!)

Layers -- In the past, "Layers" referred to an Object's position on the Organizer, which translates to whether it was above or below another Object. That phrase has changed to "Order" because 05 now has Layers in the lower left hand corner under the Organizer window. You can create Objects like before in the initial Layer, but then you can add additional Layers. This makes editing complex screens easier (you just have to be on the right Layer -- otherwise you can't select an Object). This is similar to what you see in PSP and other lesser image editing programs.

DVD Publication -- When you create a New Pub, you can scroll down the initial list of types of publications and you find "DVD." Haven't tried this beyond an initial glance. Sounds interesting.

Objects -- In the past, each type of Object (Text, Video, Images) had a single default. 05 gives you the ability to create several different defaults. For example, in addition to the "normal" Text Object, you can create a fancy one with Borders, Effects, Fonts, Colors, etc. then drag it into the Scratch Pad where you can then set it as Text Default #2, for example. You'll notice new drop-down icons next to all the Objects which show the additional Defaults for each Object. Nice idea!

DW will have a "What's New" list shortly which will cover ALL the features they've added. So far, I'm really impressed with what they've done. The first preview I got was rock solid! I had NO significant problems. I started using it in production immediately. You will definitely want to upgrade ASAP when it's released. This is a major release, worthy of a new number (4.50 to 5.0). If I were a stock broker, I'd give this a "Buy" sign.

Well, Thursday's come and gone. I, for one, am eagerly awaiting version 5, I hope we don't have a protracted wait before it's available......

My order was E mailed as soon as I learned the price of the new version!

Has anybody received the link to version 5.0? I'm still awaiting for my one.

We started sending links yesterday. Unfortunately we haven't been able to do this as automatically as we wanted because of the security limitations on the download links - so its taking a while as they are lots to do.

However, all links for evolution customers and those who have purchased the upgrade (including those purchasing this morning) should be out by today. Anyone who doesn't get theirs by close of business tonight please email sales@digitalworkshop.com as we'll be in tomorrow to mop up the stragglers and any new orders.

Our apologies, please be assured we're getting through it as quickly as we can.

Paul Harris
